First, the positive: This hotel was in a fantastic location for some of the major tourist sites, and the rooftop bar has good views. The gym was also fine (although down a bit of a rabbit warren!), and our room was comfortable with very quiet, non-aggressive air-conditioning. They also provided a nice birthday cake & bottle of prosecco.
Sadly, the service in the hotel was so consistently bad that it marred the entire experience.
1) They failed to send our pre-booked and confirmed car to pick us up from the airport for our 2.15am landing (we ended up waiting 45 minutes in arrivals, having to phone them twice because they failed to call back with an update), meaning we eventually got to the hotel at 4am, despite it being only 15 minutes away! To make it worse, they hadn't even pre-arranged to remove the charge from our bill, so checkout took 15 minutes while they worked through it - really very annoying.
2) We made an advance dinner reservation made for a birthday celebration, which we re-confirmed with the concierge. And yet, when we arrived in the torrential rain at the restaurant, they had no record of it. We got really lucky that there was a no-show, or our evening would have been ruined.
3) No shower gel was replaced in our room, so we called to ask for more. We returned to our room to find a huge bag filled with more mini toiletries than anyone could use, but no shower gel!
This is an expensive, 5* hotel and we expected significantly more - very disappointing.
