"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

Top Kauern Hotel Reviews

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kauern?
The best area to stay in Kauern is the village centre, particularly near the main square and the church.

This area offers a quiet and traditional Thuringian village experience. You'll find a few local guesthouses and holiday flats located among historic buildings, providing a calm base. The village is small and easily walkable, with the local church steeple often visible as a landmark.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate the village centre. It's an ideal spot for relaxing walks through the surrounding countryside and enjoying the slower pace of life. You're also well-placed for short drives to nearby natural parks and historical sites.

For those prioritising convenience and wanting to explore the wider region, staying close to the main road arteries just outside the immediate village centre can be practical.
When is the best time to go to Kauern?
The best time to go to Kauern is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) when the weather is pleasant and the natural beauty of Thuringia is at its peak.

During late spring, the countryside around Kauern bursts into life with lush greenery and blooming flowers. The temperatures are mild, making it ideal for exploring the numerous walking and cycling trails in the region. This period offers comfortable conditions for outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter.

Early autumn brings a spectacular display of autumnal colours to the surrounding forests and hills. The air is crisp, and the temperatures are still agreeable for outdoor excursions. This season is particularly appealing for travellers who appreciate scenic landscapes and a quieter experience, as the peak summer tourist crowds have subsided.
