"The hotel is undergoing major renovations (installing new lifts and other works) so is noisy and a little untidy. The bathrooms are not very clean - there is mould and soap scum build up. The toilet seat in our bathroom was the wrong size so will shift when used (and give you a shock). If you have your own transport then the next issue does not arise. If you need a taxi you need to book in advance (the day before). There is a new shopping centre (Mydin) nearby and there are other shops within...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kampung Gondang?
The best area to stay in Kampung Gondang is generally within the village itself or in the nearby town of Kota Bharu, depending on your priorities.

For those seeking a truly local and tranquil experience, staying directly within Kampung Gondang provides a unique insight into traditional Malay village life. Accommodation here often includes guesthouses or homestays, allowing you to connect with the community and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. This is ideal for solo travellers or couples who appreciate a slower pace and cultural immersion. You'll find yourself surrounded by lush greenery, paddy fields, and the sounds of nature, offering a quiet escape from city life.

If you prefer more amenities, dining options, and easier access to a wider range of attractions, Kota Bharu, a short drive from Kampung Gondang, is an excellent choice. The city centre, particularly around Jalan Sultanah Zainab and Jalan Kebun Sultan, offers a variety of hotels, from comfortable to more luxurious options. This area puts you within walking distance of attractions like the Central Market (Pasar Siti Khadijah), the Istana Jahar (Royal Museum), and numerous local eateries. This is particularly good for families who might appreciate the convenience of diverse dining and shopping options, as well as easy access to cultural sites for all ages.
When is the best time to go to Kampung Gondang?
The best time to visit Kampung Gondang is during the dry season, which typically runs from March to September, allowing for comfortable exploration and enjoyment of outdoor activities.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather with less humidity and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the local markets, enjoying the beaches, and visiting cultural sites. The calmer seas also make water-based activities like island hopping and snorkelling more enjoyable.

For travellers interested in local festivals and cultural events, planning your trip around Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Aidiladha, which fall within the dry season, can offer a richer experience.
Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?
