The best area to stay in Kammeltal is Wettenhausen, known for its historic abbey and tranquil surroundings.

Wettenhausen is the most prominent village in Kammeltal, primarily centred around the magnificent Wettenhausen Abbey. This Benedictine monastery, with its impressive Baroque architecture, is a key landmark. The village itself is small and quiet, offering a true taste of rural Bavarian life with pleasant walking paths through fields and along the Kammel river.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find Wettenhausen ideal. The relaxed pace of life, the beauty of the Abbey, and the opportunity for quiet strolls make it great for unwinding. You'll find a few local guesthouses that offer a personal touch and traditional Bavarian hospitality.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate abbey area but still within Wettenhausen or a neighbouring hamlet like Ettenbeuren offers more space. These areas often have larger holiday apartments or guesthouses with gardens, providing more room for children to play and easy access to the countryside for walks or cycling.

The best time to visit Kammeltal is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is at its most appealing.

During late spring, the countryside blossoms with wildflowers, and the temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 20°C. This period is ideal for outdoor activities such as cycling along the Kammeltal Cycle Path or exploring the local walking trails that wind through forests and past small villages. It's also a good time to visit without the peak summer crowds.

Early autumn offers similarly comfortable temperatures, usually between 10°C and 18°C, and the scenery is transformed by the changing colours of the leaves. This season is superb for enjoying local harvest festivals and tasting regional specialities.
