Vi algunos colibris en el jardín y la familia es muy bonito, habla Quechua y español. Es un camino corto desde el centro de Otavalo pero sentí seguro en caminar allí. So much quieter than other properties in the center of the city. Breakfast is simple but sufficient and I felt safe walking to and from the downtown area for other meals. The owners are wonderful and speak Quechua as well as Spanish. We arrived around 5:30pm. The hostal was decent but old. The front desk staff seemed confused in our reservation and were difficult to communicate with. The rooms were simple and adequate. The rooms were older and had a cabin feel to them. The bathrooms were in the room but small. It was difficult to regulate the temperature of the water. The hostal had music playing from speakers that could be heard outside and inside. Thus was odd. This blaring music started again at 7am in the morning when we were not yet awake. Breakfast was included but minimal with only cafe, eggs and croissants with juice. I do not think we would stay again. Lovely local hotel on the hill directly above Otavalo's main district. The indigenous owners Jose and Matilde are kind and helpful. At check-in you receive a sheet of paper translating 10 common phrases from Spanish to Kichwa. You can walk down to the Plaza de Ponchos and walk back as well if you don't mind the steep climb (or take a taxi for $1.50). Magnificent views over the town and across to Cotacachi volcano. A modest breakfast is included. Ils le partagent généreusement avec les invités et offrent de nous reconduire aux différents sites d'intérêt, à l'arrêt d'autobus ou autre endroit. Ils sont super sympathiques et ont contribué énormément au succès de mon séjour à Otavalo. Very steep walk up (take a cab for $2) but you can easily walk down. Can walk to the famous market. Good personal breakfasts.
