Find hotels in Hongshan

The best area to stay in Hongshan is generally around the Old Town of Shangri-La, particularly within or very close to Dukezong Ancient Town.

Dukezong Ancient Town is the historic heart of Shangri-La, known for its well-preserved Tibetan architecture, narrow cobbled streets, and traditional monasteries. The area is very walkable, with shops selling local crafts, tea houses, and restaurants serving regional specialities. The Guishan Temple, with its large prayer wheel, is a prominent landmark here.

This area is ideal for travellers wanting to experience the local culture and have easy access to points of interest. Many guesthouses and boutique hotels here offer a blend of traditional design and modern comforts, making it suitable for those who appreciate quality and a more authentic stay.

For visitors looking for more modern amenities and larger hotel options, the area just outside Dukezong Ancient Town, particularly along Changzheng Avenue, offers a range of choices.

The best time to visit Hongshan is during the dry season, which runs from October to May, offering pleasant temperatures and clear skies ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty.

During these months, you'll experience mild, sunny weather, great for hiking and outdoor activities. The air is generally crisp and visibility is excellent, which is crucial for enjoying the panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. This period avoids the monsoon rains that can make travel and outdoor excursions more challenging.

For those keen on photography or extensive hiking, planning your trip within this dry window is particularly beneficial.
