The room we booked was basic and dated but we knew that when we booked and looked for cheaper places to stay. The bed was comfortable and there was adequate space for me and my husband for a few days, but the weather was more rainy than we expected and humid so we spent more time in it than planned. The coffee machine supplies were sparse but we weren't relying on that too much. The TV was functional but dated and the owner's father helped explain to us how to use it. There was wifi which was good and the owner sent us the password via text along with check in codes etc on the day we arrived. We liked that it was the top of a hill (so better if you have a car rental) as it meant you could see the sea and look down into Hilo. Overall it was only a few minutes drive down into downtown Hilo. The only negative was there was no window covering on the lovely modern bathroom. My husband said I shouldn't worry as the room backed onto a back garden where probably no-one goes, but on one day I was showering midday (so humid so had 2 to 3 showers a day) and at that point someone was mowing the back lawn, so I had to be discreet getting out of the shower! I managed but some people might not like the lack of privacy. Overall it was a good base for our adventures on the Hilo side of the Island - downtown Hilo shops, farmers market, Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls and Botanical Gardens, Boiling pots and Caves and the Zoo. We enjoyed food at Tina's and Pineapples in town and the Conscious Cafe.
