Very spacious bedrooms, safe hotel in a quiet area. The hotel managed the load shedding issues very well.
The beds were very comfortable.
Ordering breakfast the night before could have been simplified, but having said that the food was very nice.
The good:
The Whale's Tale is a stunning-looking modern property that is immaculately maintained on the inside and outside. The property has secure parking for several cars. There are electronic locks on the main entrance and the bedroom doors. We had room 3 to the north of the property that was huge (approx 80 m2). The layout is modern and comfortable. There are windows to 3 sides of the room including a partial sea view.
A very good full English cooked breakfast is available.
The not so good:
Our room was much too warm. The air conditioning is not nearly powerful enough to cope with the size of the room which was uncomfortable throughout the night.
We were astonished to find that there is no separate bathroom. There is a shower cubicle in the corner of the room and the toilet is only partially hidden behind this shower unit. The window above the toilet does not open and there is no extractor fan. It is not possible to use the toilet with any degree of privacy. Even after 35 years of marriage, my wife and I have no interest in seeing, hearing or smelling each other poo!
This kind of arrangement may not be uncommon in South Africa, but considering that most guests are likely to be European, I cannot imagine this room layout being popular with many guests.
The town of Hermanus is spectacularly beautiful along the rugged coastline. We would be happy to return to the town again but would be avoiding the Whale's Tale for the reasons mentioned above.
uitstraling aan de buitenkant veel moderner dan de inrichting aan de binnenkant. Wel prima uitzicht op de baai en ook lekker gegeten in het restaurantje aan de nieuwe haven. excellent ontbijt
The quality of the accommodation is first class and service matches that. It is situated at Westcliff near new harbour a few minutes away from the coast path that we enjoyed walking along which was well made with plenty of benches to enjoy the sea. The path continues for miles, but is a pleasant walk to old harbour, town and restaurants. Breakfasts were excellent, and it was good to speak with other guests and hosts. Would recommend and we would return. Thank you for a great stay
A modern property with large well equipped bedrooms, clean and comfortable and with excellent ensuite facilities. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and provided a good breakfast with a choice of cooked items, breads and pastries. The property has secure enclosed parking, has a view of the sea from the front and is within a couple of minutes walk from the cliff top path which runs into Hermanus and from which whales can be seen as they pass along the coast. Hermanus with its many restaurants and facilities is a three minute drive away.
