In 1924, one of the reels of film got stuck in the projector and caught fire, igniting a full reel in the lower magazine. Only the outer shell of the theater survived the fire. The Kinema was rebuilt "as near fireproof as possible" and reopened in 1924. The Kinema Theatre was renamed the Hub Theatre in 1928. In 1933, the theatre was renovated and renamed it the Gem Theatre. After the advent of television, the theater could not attract large enough crowds to pay film rental fees. The room was clean the place was convenient to Bryce Canyon National Park at a price point much lower than other hotels in the area. I would recommend it on that basis. The rooms were very simple yet had everything needed for a good stay, made for a nice home base while visiting the parks. It is Surprise that the dinner is excellent. Chef really put his heart to it; so we have breakfast there as well.
