The best area to stay in Haselgrund is Suhl for its central location and amenities, or the smaller, more picturesque towns like Schleusingen or Themar for a quieter experience.

Suhl is a good base for exploring the wider Haselgrund region. It's the largest town in the area and offers the widest selection of hotels, restaurants, and shops. The centre of Suhl, particularly around the marketplace and Steinweg, provides easy access to local museums and the Congress Centre. Its position in the heart of the Thuringian Forest makes it a convenient starting point for various day trips.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat might prefer Schleusingen. This historic town features a charming market square and the impressive Bertholdsburg Castle. It's surrounded by gentle hills, making it ideal for relaxed walks and enjoying the natural scenery. The atmosphere here is much more relaxed than in Suhl.

For those who appreciate very quiet surroundings and a traditional feel, Themar is an excellent option. It's a small town with a rich history, evident in its half-timbered houses and the historic town wall.

The best time to visit Haselgrund is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is pleasant and the natural beauty of the region is at its peak.

Spring brings mild temperatures and the blossoming of wildflowers, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling through the Thuringian Forest. The days are longer, allowing for more exploration of the scenic trails and charming villages. Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the serene landscapes and comfortable weather for leisurely strolls.

Autumn offers crisp air, fewer crowds, and the stunning display of colourful foliage across the hillsides. This season is great for those who enjoy photography or simply wish to experience the region's natural splendour in a tranquil setting.
