Our room was very large, with a view to the ocean. There's no AC, but we cooled the room adequately with a fan. Bed was comfy, but hot water for the shower was limited; sometimes plentiful, sometimes not. Breakfast was typical for Chile. Front desk service was friendly and helpful, and most everyone can speak English well. We had a late flight, so paid for late checkout to be able to enjoy one last afternoon on the island and a hot shower before the flight. Its the tropics, and our room did have one large cockroach. Why does this freak people out compared to a cricket, a grasshopper or a fly? Just one didn't bother me, but many parts of the facility seem "un-loved", like a torn screen, or faded paint, or sticking door. Despite the need for some TLC, everything worked. If you want lush gardens and fine finishes, you'll likely find them in the pricier establishments, but we found the Hotel Tupa's price point, and short walk to downtown, to be a sweet spot for us.
