  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

I enjoyed my stay at the Microtel Lodge. There are a variety of different rooms depending on what's needed, but all rooms are very neat and clean, including a very good TV & air conditioner. The bed, sheets & towels are new, the shared bathroom, kitchen, laundary & property, were all very clean, modern & well maintained. The host l met was excellent and went above and beyond to help. This made my stay enjoyable & memorable. There is a short walk to:-Supermarkets, Petrol station, Victoria Street, Shops, CBD, Transport centre, with a very efficient bus service. Makes for an easy stay.

Parking was off-street. Bit tight but mostly securish. Amenities were sufficient. Kitchen & dining room were well stocked with utensils, glasses, crockery & spacious. Room was aa needed. Bed & manchester was warm & comfortable. Location ideal for sporting events. Air con not used

Hi-tech entry recently installed, Failed. TV in room 1) no aerial attached, 2) internet connected but incapable and 3) tv not yet set up to work. No hot water in hand basin even after 4 minutes. Similarly with the kitchen taps. Rather deceitful to give us a room with unadvertised shared facilities, even if there were no neighbours. Beautifully presented property, the size of the rooms not a problem; would definitely stay again
