Stayed at the Engel for the Simple Minds concert at the Barclays Arena Hamburg (great concert!). The hotel and staff are great and a quite nights sleep. The Papilon resturant attached to the Hotel is also great! Pubic transport (Bus) into Hamburg City centre is a 10 metre walk and a Taxi around 18 Euro.

The receptionists were very patient and accommodating with me as a foreigner who’s first time it was in Hamburg. Everyone from the staff to the cleaners were all nice and pleasant and I truly would recommend if it’s your first time coming to Hamburg to stay at this hotel; I know I will next time I come back Danke and Bis bal Hotel Engel.

ok hotel about 20 min drive from Hamburg center.
Good hotel. Far from center. Good if u are with a car. Free car parking. Pity that where was road work right in front of the the hotel and finding the place on gps was a pain in the a.. otherwise comfortable hotel with good room. Good for a couple of days.

Good hotel. There is a big parking next to the hotel. They serve brekfast during the virus situation. Room was decent but on the road side what I did not like at all. My overall rating for this hotel is 7.

What a charming place <3 Only bad thing was the transportation, it was so expensive to take a cab. Lady at the reception was just wonderful.

Most of the people at front desk are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is delicious, huge variety of foods etc. Servers are polite and helpful.Italian restaurant looks nice but I have not trued it yet. One issue..at checkout time they tried to charge me quite a bit extra, I declined to pay and returned with my Hotels.com invoice.It is always the same man that causes these issues. They also charged me 3 euro a night for parking which is a first (I have stayed here for decades when I visit my family) and parking fee was not mentioned on Hotels.com website. I love the coziness of this hotel and the garden / tables in the courtyard. Parking lot can be full if you arrive later in evening. Wifi was weak in my room.

Top hotel
A super hotel and very well looked after, very friendly and helpfull staff. Also a nice quiet area. The only comment is the evening dinner, the menu is limited and is not matching the hotels high standard. I had the vienna schnitzel one night and it was not so good. The is the only issue of a great hotel, so please try your own menu.

The hotel is nice, clean and well thought out in design. The rooms were clean and comfortable with suites available as well. Excellent restaurant and breakfast buffet too.

Location is a residential area, hotel needs some updating, beds are not so comfortable. Hotel restaurant was quite good. There are few choices for restaurants outside of the hotel due to its location. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Beds were not so comfy, breakfast could use some improvement, area around hotel is residential, quiet, but only two Italian restaurants within walking distance. One of the restaurants did not take credit cards.

The service was great Only stayed 1 night but the hotel is very old. Our room was in another building throug the garden, left then right then the lift on the right then turn left and right so took a while to get to the room plus we found another guy who was lost aswell.. would have been nice to be escorted to the room but over all very happy with the customer service and the hotel room was clean and big. All tv channels in German with no English subtitles but that’s minor

Nice hotel, watch out for hidden cost!
Warning: they hand out a breakfast coupon when you check-in, but don't tell you its 13€ per person. They make it seem like it's just included with your room comma and then the next day they bill you for it. (Very under-cool. Ruined what would be an otherwise pretty awesome Hotel.) The hotel is in a nice location and cleaning off, and everything else was great. You just have to watch to make sure you're not falling for one of their little scams.

Ok, spoilt by 2 things for me....
Hotel was ok. Clean. No air con though, the gym or fitness centre was a joke! How can a hotel get away with calling a fitness centre with bits missing! Dangerous more like..... one guy in the evening was rude. Attitude towards customers, was not what I call acceptable. Like he was doing us a favour just to get a late night beer to relax before bed. Other than that it was ok.

Very nice warm hotel in a good location
I spent 3 nights at this hotel and enjoyed it a lot. The staff is friendly, the room was comfortable, the breakfast was great and had a lot of variety. I definitely recommend it and would come back.

Nice set up
We stayed 3 nights and it was lovely.. enjoyed the sauna.. we only missed coffee at any given time.. as we had to go ti reception as we were in a standard room.. but maybe a coffee station in that part of the where we pay for it.. that would be nice..

Hotel is right next to the ferry crossing the river. Expect some noise early marking and late evening. But still acceptable.

Clean and friendly
My wife and I have stayed here several times in the past year and find it to be very clean and friendly. Steve (night mgr.) has made us feel at home each time he has been there, which makes us want to return. Main restaurant is very homey with good food. The beds are a little too hard, but I think that is common in Germany. We will return!

The room had a funny smell. Didn't sleep comfortable as the pillows weren't firm enough and the duvet was not big enough to cover my entire body. Toilet was not cleaned properly.

nice hotel close to the airport
we wanted a hotel close to the airport since we had a late evening arrival. Older hotel but was kept up nice. Although the hotel did not have AC, we did have a fan in our room which was needed to keep the room cool and comfortable. The internet worked only part of the time which was frustrating but the man at the hotel desk let me use their computer which I guess had high speed, so I could contact family back home one time. Restaurant next to the hotel was nice and had very friendly staff.
