We stayed here with our rental car to explore and see Fuji. We could walk to a lot of cool restaurants. Drinks in the hotel bar were nice with the view of the hotel grounds and mountains.

I stayed in a room at the first floor of the main building. There was a musty smell that hits you when you open the door. It does get mitigated if you open the window but will return if you close the window. Also the room presented a very tired look and needs updating. The common area including the French restaurant looked good though. I can't recommend this hotel because of the room conditions

Loved our short stay at the Highland Hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, and very well maintained property with excellent onsen. Will be back in the future.

Quiet area. How i wish there was a shuttle for transportation. Communicating with some of the staff was a little bit challenging but everybody was very friendly and accomodating.

The property has a rich legacy dating back to pre-ww2 times. It's quiet, decently maintained and the onsen is nice. If you have a car, worth considering

The staff is incredibly helpful and warm. The on-site onsen is amazing. The Hakone bus stops right out front, and it is cheap and takes you everywhere. Food at the hotel includes only one VERY expensive restaurant, but local eateries, a noodle house, Korean BBQ and Italian are within a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride.

Nice Hotel in the Hakone Highlands
A rather formal place with some French flair in a quite remote but beautiful location. We booked a premium room and it was enormous by Japanese standards. Despite remoteness, the Hotel is easily reached by frequent busses and is well situated visit the Hakone highlights. Only downside is that there re not many eating options nearby. The in house restaurant is excellent, but a bit pricey.

Overall fantastic
Overall very impressed! The food was massively overpriced ($100 USD for dinner) but there are some great options nearby. The onesen is glorious! One thing we struggled with was the smell of cigarettes coming into our room. Also like the rest of Japan the beds are short, small, hard and the pillows too few! The staff are very polite and considerate and we enjoyed our stay.

Lovely hotel
Beautiful spacious room. We picked a room with a private bath which was a treat. The staff were friendly and helpful and the dinner was delicious. The 2 day Hakone free pass is useful (especially if you plan on using the ropeway and or ferry) and includes the "T" bus which drops you off right in front of the hotel.

Great hotel in the mountains
We had a lovely stay here. Nice and quiet, great staff, excellent onsen facilities (including the shower cubicles and change rooms!) The area this hotel is in is very quiet and most restaurants close by 8pm. Lots of convenience stores around, though! Close to hiking trails if that's your thing - we walked to the trail head to climb up to Mt. Kintoki for a great view of Mt. Fuji. The hotel grounds looked amazing, although we didn't have enough time to explore. Our room even came with a pair of binoculars and a leaflet to guide you on a walk of the grounds. Tip: It took us a while to get to the hotel coming from the Shinkansen Odawara station, but we discovered the very-convenient Odakyu Hakone Highway bus that stops right outside the hotel and takes you to Shinjuku station in Tokyo for 1900 Y.

Enjoyed the Onsen
The hotel grounds were very well maintained and provided a picturesque wallpaper visible from most of the hotel compound. Our room was a bit dated. It looked like there was another section that was more updated. The bus stop is just in front of the hotel. I enjoyed the public onsen experience here – spacious changing room, many shower stalls, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi and sauna all with views of the park. Dinner was served fine dining style in a very posh set-up. It was enjoyable even though the portions were small and some of the French-Japanese fusion a bit neither one nor there for us. There is a choice of Japanese and French options for breakfast. The hotel is next to the Venetian Glass museum (a should visit as well).

Very nice hotel next door to the Venetian Glass museum. French themed hotel. Restaurant is a bit expensive, and there aren’t options in walking distance, so be prepared for that if you don’t have a car. The spa and Onsen are really fantastic. Definitely take advantage. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and kind, and if you’re worried they speak enough English to communicate fine.

Deceiving food. Amazing hotel
The hotel is amazing, very clean and luxury. It is well maintained and the decoration is beautiful. Our room had a small onset in the balcony and we loved it, particularly when it was rainy outside. The hotel is 30 min away from the station but is well connected to main attractions by frequent bus service. Several lines serve the area so this wasn't a problem for us. I found the hotel hotel quite expensive but I thought it would be worth it since half board was included. (£2.100 two rooms two nights). Unfortunately the food was slightly deceiving particularly for the European taste. The restaurant is quite posh so... you know big plate small portions. You have a set menu with no options to choose amongst. The food is like a mixture of French / Japanese cuisine. We didn't enjoy the lack of choices and some of the dishes were sent back to the kitchen untouched, e.g. Soup of sweet corn with sea orchin. The morning after we chose Japanese breakfast which was very authentic but again .,, too much for us. It was our fault though as we wanted the Japanese experience. Continental breakfast was scarce and not exactly what I expected. There is a luxury feel around meals but I found it pretentious and not very well delivered. There are no foreigners in the hotel so I guess this is something that perhaps Japanese find it very chic and high standard. I've been in many hotels in Japan. The food served in this hotel was the poshest one ever but the most undatisfying too.

Friendly staff, good facilities at the hotel, pacey room with comfortable bed, and the spa area is clean and well organized. The Japanese style breakfast set is delicious! Easy access by bus. Overall, worth every penny!

Everything was good. It's warm in the lobby and the reception is nice; Hotel is near the bus stop, convenience store (5mins) and restaurant (10mins); The room is neat and tidy and room size is big; Onsen area is quiet. Breakfast is also included. The hotel should add a washing machine and microwave.

慢活箱根 酒店作為基地都唔錯
去到酒店已經係夜晚八點幾，上嘅山路都算多，建議最好在日間。由於沒有訂餐關係，服務員介紹附近一間只需步行10多分鐘的居酒屋唔錯。 溫泉關門時間為午夜12點，所以每晚夜歸都可以盡量享受浸浴先至入睡。 早餐不是buffet， 選擇比較簡單，只有日式或西式。 總共住了三晚，省了搬酒店時間。 自駕遊，酒店提供充足嘅泊車位，由酒店出發其他景點都方便。
