10/10 Excellent
"Where to begin…. Well we have already made a booking to have the privilege of staying at Mingro for two weeks next year! A well cared for cosy cottage in a fabulous location with direct access to the beautiful Rothiesholm beach. We loved the tranquil, peaceful setting and certainly didn’t miss WiFi or TV with so much beautiful scenery on the doorstep. We found everyone on the island very friendly and welcoming, always a smile and cheery wave. Researching family history we found the Heritage Centre to be a great resource and also learned so much chatting to some of the long established residents, hearing great tales of Stronsay in past times. We left Mingro feeling we had only touched the surface of all there is to explore and although Stronsay is not the easiest destination to get to it is well worth the effort."
"The ground floor is being renovated, so reception is at The Kirkwall Hotel next door. So there is investment here. That being said, hopefully the rooms and floors are next. The existing building is shabby, though my small, single room was functional at best. 5'x10', plus a small bathroom that could do with new sink fixtures. The tight shower had hot water and good water pressure. Staff next door were very helpful and welcoming. Park nerely anywhere "there's no traffic warden"."
"We found the apartment quite easily with instruction from the owner. - about 40 mins from Stromness. It was quite comfortable but we were always conscious of the white carpet in the living space and bedroom. We had stayed on the island before and enjoyed many of the activities and visits again. (Ring of Brodgar, Marwick Head, The causeway down to South Ronaldsay, st Magnus cathedral and lots of birdwatching). Distances from the apartment are quite manageable but we think that Finnstown, our previous base was a more convenient. Thanks to Richard and Janet the owners"
