Being right on the water was wonderful. We used the hot tub almost every night. Our first night there, a pod of whales swam by while we were in the hot tub. Grenivik is a lovely location, a quiet town about half an hour from the city and all its amenities. It was a great launching point for all the local attractions. The hosts were super helpful. It was warm and cozy and spacious. The upstairs shower was not working properly. We reported it. Luckily there was a downstairs shower we could use. It would have been rough if a big group was there. We only had two people for our stay. Also, there was no dishwasher soap. And it would have been nice to have some measuring utensils. There wasn’t even a measuring cup. Aside from the shower issue, nothing else was a major problem. Overall, I would definitely stay there again. The pluses definitely outweighed any minuses. The view was spectacular! The one and only time we saw the northern lights was from the house. The downstairs family room was huge and a really nice touch. We spent a lot of time there. It's a bit remote if you're exploring more regionally. I think we may have been the first visitors of the season so there were a few things overlooked (snow-blocked driveway, among others), but the owner was very responsive about issues. That said, if you're in a caretaker role, it's not a great fit. There's not a single comfortable seat in the house to sit and look out at the water. The couch is comfortable but below grade and down a narrow stair in a room that can't be heard from the rest of the house. That level of separation of the lower level might be perfect for some, but for us it presented challenges. I would have been so grateful for a single place to sit on the main level that wasn't a bed or a dining chair. A paver or two on the way to the hot tub would also be helpful, so we weren't tracking moss and mud into it. It's also not a great fit if your knees are a little stiff after a long hike. Aside from the difficult interior stair, the first step at the front is a doozy, especially when managing the luggage. Minor inconveniences yes, but the sort of thing that tells you the house hasn't been lived in. The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and appliances, the heat and washer/dryer all worked well, and the presentation was clean and tidy. ##### Elizabeth L. The house is big and extremely well-equipped incl. outdoor hot tub (view over the lake) and top-quality kitchen with the same view over the lake while cooking and eating. A little way (30 mins) from the regular Ring Road but a lovely village and area to explore, including some or all of the Arctic Way. For whale-watching it’s close to Husavik for and even closer to Hauganes, which can be seen from the house and exceeded all expectations for us. (We even saw the whale activity across the water the next day once we knew where to look … take binoculars!).
