Our stay in the Santo Spirito Palace was very good. Before arrival, all of our questions were answered promptly. With our first and final payments, we received the terms of the rental; amount owed for cleaning fees and city taxes; and directions and contact telephone number for check-in. When we arrived, the apartment was clean and ready for us to move in. Although the windows of two of the three bedrooms opened onto a busy and colorful piazza, the windows are new and made of extra thick glass so that when closed the rooms are quiet and you can sleep easily with minimal disturbances. My husband, who is a very light sleeper, used his ear plugs and had no complaints. The three bathrooms were ample, modern and had good water pressure. Make sure however that you request directions on how to use the bathroom toilet located at the back of the apartment near the washing machine, as that was one of the confusing things about this property.
The apartment is located within one to two blocks of good bakeries and coffee houses. There are daily markets in the piazza. This is a nice central location and we found it easy to walk to many of the sights.
The other confusing thing about this property was the cleaning fee. The initial Home Away voucher did not bill or note a cleaning fee. My rental agreement from the owner stated the cost of the cleaning fee that must be paid in cash at the time of check-in. When I arrived, I was told that they had increased the cost of the cleaning fee. I was also told that an e-mail had been sent to me one week before my arrival advising me of this change. I had started my vacation two weeks before my arrival in Florence and had frequently checked my Home Away Telephone Application but the e-mail notice had been sent directly to my personal e-mail address so I did not see this email. What did I learn? Owners and renters should communicate through Home Away's e-mail service so that communication is readily accessible both through personal e-mail and the Home Away telephone App. I did have a copy of my rental agreement with all of the information, so the person checking me in agreed to honor the rental agreement and accepted the amount printed on the rental agreement document. There were five of us and we all agreed that we had a good stay on this property.
