The location is great--close to the train station, and also very close to the big market in Florence. Ten minutes' walk to the Duomo. The guesthouse was very clean, with a convenient kitchen--microwave, fridge, stove, drinkable water, etc. Paula was very kind. The only negative thing about this place is that there's no elevator and it's on the third floor--manageable with carryon luggage, but I can't imagine carrying a full suitcase all the way up (we stored ours in a luggage locker by the train station and just used our carryons).

Cancelled reservations
Our room was cancelled, but not by us. So it was a terrible experience. We did not stay in Florence but went to Lucca
The hosts are friendly, speak excellent English and go well out of their way to be helpful. They know lots about the area and can provide good advice. They even recommended and booked an excellent tour of the surrounding region for us - not pushy at all but I had looked at many other possibilities but the one they recommended was well suited to what we wanted and at a better price than I had researched. We had backpacks and there was enough room for us to unpack and wash our clothes and sort our stuff. We had to share a bathroom but that was not a problem - I think there are en-suite options available. The place is conveniently located to transport and to the main sights - the market is close as are heaps of good restaurants and bars.We got caught in a train strike (after we had checked out) but the hosts allowed us to come back and leave our bags, offered us help such as making calls on our behalf and use of WiFi and even gave us a key. They went well above what could be expected from a host.

Thanks a lot for yr review and we glad you have had very good time here in Florence. Wishing you all the best, ciao Il Ghiro Family
Fantastic location and friendly staff. More like a hostel with private rooms. Shared bathroom wasn't a problem. Given a coffee pod to use in the coffee machine each morning, and free access to washing machine which was great!. Climbing 3 floors of stairs no problem if mildly fit.

Great find and a good rate. Sort of a hostel, but with private rooms only. The owner is really friendly and has lots of information about Firenze. We were able to self check in late at night and then pay the following morning. Door codes were emailed that day. Our room was ok in size, bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Good location near the main train station and north of the major attractions. No breakfast.
A nice cheaper choice, close to the train station and everything of interest. The worst thing is having to carry your bags up several flights of stairs, but the owners son helped us do that and you only have to do it once. The other thing is having everyone share a bathroom, so more hostel than hotel really.
Lovely owners. Shared shower & toilet worked out OK. Only issue that it was located on 4th floor & no lift meant it was a struggle getting large heavy bags to the top floor.
Had a washing machine. Much appreciated

Hotel in Florence
Room was on 5th floor with no elevator. Room and bathroom was clean. Mattress on twin beds were flat with not much cushion. Location of hotel was within walking distance of train station. Staff was very helpful and provided info about places to go and where to find them.
Mohamed and his family made us feel at home. (So corny! But true!) They genuinely want you to have a good experience. They even offered to walk my Mom to somewhere nearby so she wouldn't get lost. Simple, not fancy, but cleanest place I've stayed in Europe. Unbeatable location is right next to a main train station.
We stayed here two nights and found it to be just fine. Short walk from the train station, lots of restaurants close by and within walking distance to the sights. check in was quick and very helpful. Very basic but clean and on a quiet street. It's up four flights of stairs, so not so great for somebody with lots of baggage, we have backpacks so no big deal. I would stay here again.
The staff was very nice and helpful. They really care about their visitors. The room was a little small and no breakfast was provided, but Il Ghiro is located close to a bakery. We could use the fridge to store some food. Overall, we were very happy with this room and we recommend it.
excellent owners. allows you to cook, wash clothes, and explains the neighbourhood to you. near the train station by foot 10mins. there are stairs to climb though.
I chose this hotel because of its convenient location and acceptable price. It provided simple breakfast as well. The hotel is a family owned small business. The owner is very kind and helpful. He ran the hotel in a family style and kept it very clean. Although it was a little bit difficult to communicate because he does not speak English, he is an easy-going old gentle man and made us felt comfortable and safe during our stay.
We loved our stay at Il Ghiro. The owner Mohammad (i think) was so helpful and kind. We had a long chat with him in the morning. There was one free amazing coffee and as much tea as you like. We were also able to wash our clothes there for free which was certainly helpful for us travelers. We were a little skeptical when we first walked in but we didn't need to be. The shared bathroom was clean and nicely decorated and we didn't notice anyone else using it. The only problem is the amount of steps going up to Il Ghiro as there is no lift.
Room was quite tiny but served its purpose. It did not have AC in the rooms with the shared bathrooms, but did have a ceiling fan that helped. small kitchen, not a lot of space in the fridge. Helpful staff checking in and getting a cab ride to the airport.
I was looking for a cheap and simple place that was close to the train station and that would be convenient for exploring Florence on foot for a weekend. It was in a great location. The room was basic and I shared a bathroom but it was comfortable. The staff was very helpful. I had to arrive after the reception desk closed and they were great in communicating with me ahead of time to provide the door code etc. They also allowed me to keep my bags there on the last day while I toured around before getting on my train which was very helpful so I didn't have to lug it all around. They had a kitchenette and laundry available but I didn't utilize it on my quick weekend trip.
This is a guest house, so it is "bare bones". It is clean, well cared for, convenient to both the train station and the center, and a good price. The host, however, was exceptionally helpful in every way, and even hefted our bags not only up the several flights of stairs, but back down again when we checked out. Excellent value for expensive Florence.
Nice place to stay, close to everything and practical with a kitchen and washing machine

II Ghiro Room 1
Although on the 3rd floor, Stefano carried our main suitcase up and down the stairs.
Although basic, location 10 minutes walk from the railway station and for easy access to everything else suited us.
Information from Stefano excellent.
Had a great stay at Il Ghiro! The staff were great, so kind and helpful! The location was also convenient, being near the main train station and just a few minutes from the main sights of Florence. Overall, highly recommend staying here!
Friendly and helpful staff at this B & B. Cleaning and kitchen facilities were good. Very good location for sight seeing and access to train station. There was one toilet/shower room to share and this was the only negative.

The hostel has decent amenities (wifi, laundry, kitchen and utensils). The room was of good size and we had an en-suite bathroom. The room was cleaned daily and they did a good job. Stephano was very friendly and helpful. The only problem I had with the hostel was poor sound insulation. The doors of the rooms were not very sound proof. If you happened to stayed with other guests who got loud in the common area, your rest may be disturbed. Beware, this 4th floor hostel does not have an elevator.Overall, good value. Will stay here again.
We chose Il Ghiro because of the price and it's location near the train station. It is also a short walking distance to many of Florence's sights. The room was nice and clean, and the shared bathroom was also well maintained. We didn't find any soap/shampoo in the shower, so be sure to bring those if you choose to stay here.

Right in the historic heart of Florence
You can't beat Il Ghiro for location: a few blocks from the SMN train station on Via Faenza, a street with a great evening vibe. The hotel is more a hostel than a full service hotel, it's got a little kitchen, you can make your own coffee, no luxury but quite adequate if you want to be in the historic district. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We were able to leave our luggage until it was time to go to the train station. The hotel can be tricky to find, there are no big signs outside.
We had a very plesant stay there. It's in a great location so you can go back to your room easily and have a rest during the day and start off again when refreshed. Its up quite a few stairs so you should not have many cases and be fit enought to walk up as there is no lift. The lady was very helpful and friendly making us feel at home. There is nobody on sight but there are numbers to ring if you have a problem.
The hotel was really good and we were very happy with the service and attention we received. We arrived and Alejandra there to greet us she showed us a map and told us where the supermarket was, where we could ear, and she gave us a few tips. Everything was within walking distance of the hotel and the surroundjng neighborhood was very nice and not shady.
The rooms were very clean, comfortable and we were given a small tv. We shared a bathroom with other rooms which was kept very clean by the staff and cleaned every morning. Expect to pay a small tourist fee. The hotel is more like a one room house with various rooms: it has a kitchen with dishes and cups and it has free coffee and tea as well as a wine bottle opener and a fridge that you can share w others. Overall a great experience.
My wife and I stayed here June 25/26, 2014 and had a great time. If you ever wondered what was behind the doors that line the streets of Florence, you will find out here. We rang the bell of the well marked door and we're greeted on the intercom by the lady in charge. She buzzed us in and proceeded to carry both our luggage pieces to the fourth floor. There was a kitchen area available, no microwave, coffee and tea available and good wifi. The only drawback was the shared bathroom, but we knew that when we booked the place. We would stay here again. Easy to get to the train station, a central market nearby and all that is Florence an easy walk.
Located in 4th floor with no lift but the staff helped me to carry one luggage up. WiFi don't work at room 1 but connection in common area is good. Washing machine use is limited to day time. Other than these minor details, very good guesthouse. Clean and the room is big!
It was a cosy and clean place in the heart of Florence. The staff were very friendly and we really enjoyed staying there.

Very noisy hotel
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean. But the noise level is unfortunately the deal breaker. Every room in the hotel is just a few feet from the kitchen. If you plan on resting for an hour in the afternoon, don't stay here. The owner of the hotel and her friends were loudly talking in the kitchen for hours - not a great way to recover from a long day of traveling.
we were in a double private with private bath, great location about 5 minute walk from train station and bus station and about 7 minutes to duomo and central square, room was large with working AC, it was very quiet, there is a nice kitchen, WiFi worked in our room, the place was very clean
Good location with the train and markets/city centre a 5-10min walk. Room was basic with no power points but other than that we had use of a kitchen and washing machine. Good price for good location and staff were friendly on arrival! Would stay again!

Very close to train station and Il duomo
The hotel was 5 min walk from train station. And 10 min walk to the cathedral. The street was full of trattorias and lively, but yet not noisy. Room was clean and the hotel was quiet. The city of Florence is beautiful.
Very clean and modern accomodation in an old building close to everything Florence has to offer. Helpful and pleasant staff, useful free access to internet computer and fully equipped kitchen with free coffee. Excellent value, I highly recommend to others and hope to return myself.
