Excellent location, value and service!
We only stayed 2 days in Florence so a central location was critical. This was a great location especially for a last minute booking! Other than some traffic restrictions that we didn’t understand there were no issues. The hotel called the local authorities and had the fines removed, and even sent us documents for proof, beyond excellent service! We even received a friendly “bravo” for sleeping late and enjoying actually being on vacation!

Pretty good value for florence
Great location very close to smn station. If you're on a hit and run mission to florence, this hotel is hard to beat. Has a lift.

Stayed in Florence for 3 days and the Hotel was within short walking distance to the Duomo, train station, and many tasty restaurants. The room itself was good for the amount of days staying there, we really enjoyed having the option of logging into Netflix because we like to sleep with the TV on. Nadia was very helpful, friendly, and pleasant to be around. It was convenient having breakfast right in the hotel for €8 and it wasn’t bad, it was the right amount of food. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our stay.

Dear Mr. Chaim, We are truly surprised by your review we do not understand how can you write such a thing considering that you left before entering the room, we think that in order to judge a room you need to see it first but the problem was your mistake by booking the wrong type of bed and instead of two separate beds you booked a double bed and at 08:00 PM in the evening you wanted somebody to separate your beds for you, and when we told you that we will separate the beds as requested even though it was late and no housekeeper at that hour, you left without saying anything.our best regards !!!Hotel Berna

We were there for 2 nights. The 1st night AC was almost not working and the summer heat in Italy has started. Terrifying summer heat. The next morning, there WAS NO ELECTRICITY. We needed to bathe because of the sticky feeling from the night before. But I think our AC was not really working in the first place because when we got home the next day from our day tour, the cover of the AC was not there. It really looked like it was inspected. And lo and behold, there was a fan left in the room. It was so hot, we were given A fan to replace the AC that we paid for and the heat was terrible. Our body was sore from so much sweating. We joined our tour without the benefit of a refreshing shower because how could we? It was sooo dark in the bathroom? If not for the beauty of Italy I would rage hell. I think we deserve to be reimbursed from this trip. Just saying. We were just glad we were leaving on the third day.

Hotel Berna isn't as much of a hotel as a handful of rooms on one floor in a building. We walked by the entrance 3 times before we found it. Our room contained three twin beds. Space was a bit tight, but we didn't spend a lot of time in our room. The decor is "old world." Not modern at all, but that's OK. There is a small refrigerator we used for water bottles, and breakfast is available if reserved in advance. We were up and out early, so we didn't partake. It's adjacent to the train station, and a quick walk to Piazza del Mercato Centrale, where there are several great restaurants.

We had invaluable guidance and assistance from Elena and Nadia at front desk. First Florence advice then train Breakfast vast and lady made best cappuccino. Hold the excess foam and use lot of coffee

Within walking distance of major attractions
Our room was clean, comfortable and quite spacious for an old building. We also had a balcony. The hotel manager, Nadia, was very friendly and knowlegeable and happy to answer any questions. The lift was very small and could only accommodate one person with luggage, but this was not a problem. Breakfast was very adequate. It was also a very quiet hotel with no noise from from other guests.

One of the worst
It was our worst experience of staying in Europe ever. This is an old building which one floor has been converted to the hotel (if can be named as a hotel!). The hotel is very old and noisy. It is also dirty. It is behind a very busy street. The big garbage trashes are just beside the hotel and the garbage trucks are always there during midnight (almost every 90 minutes). It was difficult to sleep during all 3 nights that we stayed there because of the heavy noises. All the facilities inside are old and dirty. It does not even have a proper Wifi. 90% of the time, our cellphones even could not find the Wifi. The big old wooden closet was shaking and almost falling when opened. The washroom was so dirty and smelling terrible. No tissue. The elevator was smelling sewer. One day we asked for the room make up. They did not even change the towels! We selected this hotel based on the tripadvisor review. But I do not know how people gave a high rating to this old, noisy and dirty place. After we rated this hotel dirty for Expedia review, the hotel manager sent us a very rude message via Expedia. Propably she was expecting us to give high rating to this terrible place!

Small but good B&B near the Train Station
This was my first experience at a B&B, and my first time in Florence, so there were surprises. For the uninitiated, B&Bs in Italian cities are often a floor, or part of a floor, in an old building. This building had a half dozen or more B&Bs, and I happened to see "Hotel Berna" by a button on a door, pushed the button, and I was admitted. The building was well-kept, and after a few steps up, there was an elevator to the small lobby. Staff spoke English, a great help. Our room was small but clean, and furnished in a romantic style of furniture and fixtures. The bathroom was modern and well appointed. WiFi worked well. There was a small refrigerator to cool our beverages. It was so quiet, I was sure we were the only guests, but the next morning the tiny breakfast room was full of couples and families. A staff person made coffee and cappuccino for us, to order. Breakfast was cold meats, cheese, yogurt, eggs, pastries - very adequate and tasty. I would return, and bring my friends!

Read the fine prints!
20 Euros clearing fees are charged, it was written in the fine prints but among other fees like airport transfer,,, We asked the staff to have the bathroom re-cleaned as there was an unpleasant odor, it was done quickly and problem solved. The beds and the pillows are not confotable, new but cheap. On the positive side, the location is great and the breakfast is outstanding compared to other typical Italian Hotel breakfast.

I made really late reservation and it went through hotels.com And I tried to check-in. Hotel check in was closed and they said they don't have rooms. So I had to go other place at 11pm. Guess what they charged on my credit card more than 200 dollars. What a great place? Be honest folks.

Typical Local Hotel Close to Train Station
We were delighted with the location of this hotel. We took a train from Milan to Florence, and it was a five minute walk (if that) to the hotel...yet it was not on the train station premises nor could you hear trains & people coming and going. It did surprise us that is was in a building with several floors of small, local hotels. It was quaint & fun. You had to push a button to be admitted to the building. The elevator was a very old, small elevator. Only one of us could ride it at a time when we had luggage with us. The staff was exceptionally friendly and great to deal with. The room decor what we expected from pictures we had seen. It is a very small local hotel & not a large chain, which adds to its charm. The two things we found that were under par were the shower & the pillows. The pillows were very hard & uncomfortable. The shower was - believe it or not - a 'fold-out' shower. That would not have been a big problem, but the water pressure was next to nothing making it difficult to get wet all over! These two things aside, we very much enjoyed staying there. We could open the large windows (which were really doors), and step onto the balcony to people-watch. There were a table and chairs there, but due to the season they were stacked up as one wouldn't want to spend much time out there in the cool air. I would highly recommend this hotel & would stay there again should I return to Florence. Experiencing local hotels is part of the fun of traveling!

Greta Hotel & Great location!
Great Hotel for a great price! It's only a 2 min walk from the train Station. We had a cute little balcony where we could sit out relax and watch everyone rushing by. Only thing I didn't realize is that they are located on the 3rd floor and have an extremely small elevator (I guess this is typical for European Hotels) so I refused to take it and carried my suitcase up 3 flights of stairs.

Good hotel
The hotel was very centrally located and was a very short walk away from the train station. The breakfast was good, the rooms were spacious, the AC worked well, and the beds were comfortable. I would return to this hotel were I to visit Florence again.

Budget hotel close to the train station
The location of this hotel is perfect. Just steps away from the train station and Mercato Centrale, as well as many excellent restaurants and tourist attractions. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The hotel staff is very nice and welcoming.

Excellent Hotel - Best of our Italy Trip
Hotel staff was AMAZING and the hotel has an ice maker. Room was very clean. The hotel is more like a Bed and Breakfast - a ten room hotel located on the third floor of the building. Very safe and secure. There is a small elevator which we did use to transport luggage but walked the rest of the time. Nice breakfast each morning. Very short, easy walk from train station. Hotel staff was extremely helpful with transportation and restaurant suggestions. They went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. Definitely the best hotel stop on our 12 day trip. Highly recommend this one!

Wonderful Central Hotel with reasonable price
The room was spacious with homely decoration. The operator is obviously someone whom loves to decorate her hotel just like home. Location very central and convenient, close to the main points of attraction. The staff is pleasant, and breakfast spread is good despite it being a boutique hotel.

Would not recommend this hotel!
Bath room smells of bleach. Room is old and run down and has a lot of mosquitoes. Reception is hardly around. Only good thing is the location which is very near the railway station.

A great 2-star hotel.
Hotel Berna is certifiably a two-star hotel. With that in mind, it surprisingly offers more. For Florence the price is exceptionally reasonable. Considering that, ordinarily, guests are in their rooms to only sleep and/or shower, we got that in a clean but antiquated room, in close proximity to the Mercato Centrale, across the street from a pasticceria, a convivial staff, and a balcony overlooking Via. F. Alinari so we could watch the chaos that is Florence while drinking Mercato Centrale wine and eating mozzarella di bufala and salami. Everything in Florence is within walking distance of everywhere else. If you're interested in the sights and sounds of Florence more than the luxury of a 5-star hotel (when you're awake), you can't go wrong with Berna. If there is any cautionary note to be made, its the directions. Exit on the left side of the train station. Cross the street. As you approach the other side, turn right. Walk to the corner and turn left. Don't cross the street. Walk 50 yards and the entry to Berna, shared with other hotels will be on your left. If you pass the Chinese restaurant (obvious from the red lanterns) you've gone too far.

Wifi connection was not bad. Breakfast was great. Room neat and clean but the air freshener was too overly sweet and too much for us. We had to disconnect it from the plug. Location of the hotel was within walking distance.

Very value for $$ for the budgets
2 min walk from Firenze Train Station, Chinese restaurant on the right side n supermarket on the left side (facing hotel entrance), big Macdonald at the corner, walkable distance to attraction, breakfast foc but limited choice, 3 min walk to bus terminal (to go SPACE), spacious room space but small bathroom. After 8pm, have to use key (provided with rm key tgt during check in) to open the 2 glass doors downstair as reception will not be ard. Room have little soundproof (maybe stay to near reception areas due to last min booking)

As for your advice on the breakfast, we take note and try to improve it together with our employees. I say that surely the confectionery is not internal, but is delivered daily from a bakery in the area. All part of the savory (sandwiches, pizzas and crepes) are prepared by the lady every morning with great care and with twenty years experience in the field. The organization of-sale preparation is questionable and some savory, as in most bars citizens, they are not prepared at the time. This, in the eyes, it can affect the perception of quality of service, even if the tastes are subjective. The next time you visit us we hope to surprise positively from all points of view. Excellent Stay!
This is my second time staying at the hotel. Excellent location, approximately 5 minutes walk from Santa Maria Firenze train station. Close walking distance to the attractions. Comfortable rooms and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is also a supermarket right downstairs which is convenient.

I really have NO idea why this two star hotel gots such a high score here or in trip advisor or booking! Though I have to admit that the location is very convenient, the hotel facility is really in very bad and creepy condition!! I have to lock the room door every time otherwise it will open itself. The closet door cannot be closed so when I go to bed every minute I think there will be a monster crawling out the closet. The glass on the desk is broken. The most terrible thing is the water will become dripping all of sudden when you are in the middle of your shower!!! And you may need to wait about 5mins before it become normal. And all of sudden, it becomes dripping again. EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Most importantly, the price is not that cheap. My B&B also near the train station in Rome is much much much better than this, but 20% cheaper. After all the negative comments above, I also have to admit that the service is really good. But I will never ever stay in this hotel again. It really ruin my Florence trip. Think twice!!
