"The photos are simply untrue. The camp is in poor condition - broken chairs & lanterns; blankets thrown about; garbage strewn here & there. There is only one outlet in each tent and electricity was not always available. We had less than five minutes of hot water over 48 hours. Often one teenager was the only staff on site, and we had to communicate using Google translate, as the adults simply were not around. Hamid did his best to keep things lively, but he’s working with very little. I...

"Our stay here was the highlight of our trip. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, and the resort is both beautiful and pristine. We were fortunate to book on a day when we had the entire resort to ourselves, and the staff kindly arranged a quad excursion in the desert for us while we dined at the restaurant. The desert experience was something I had long hoped to do, and this resort helped make it one of my fondest memories. I only wish we had stayed longer than one night. The room...

Sahara dunes Luxury Camp

8/10 Good

"Actual and photographs diiffer. Note there is No Aircon in the units , however they have circular tents with aircon not offered on Expedia"

Nasser Palace Suites & Spa

10/10 Excellent

"Our stay here was the highlight of our trip. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, and the resort is both beautiful and pristine. We were fortunate to book on a day when we had the entire resort to ourselves, and the staff kindly arranged a quad excursion in the desert for us while we dined at the restaurant. The desert experience was something I had long hoped to do, and this resort helped make it one of my fondest memories. I only wish we had stayed longer than one night. The room was also lovely."

Sahara Magic Luxury Camp

10/10 Excellent

"We decided to book Sahara Magic Luxury Camp independently rather than join a group tour, and we’re so glad we did! Hassan warmly welcomed us at the pickup point and drove us to camp in their 4x4. Mustafa greeted us with wonderful hospitality and delicious Moroccan tea. The camel trek to watch the sunset over the Sahara was absolutely mesmerizing and a highlight of our trip. The tents were clean and well maintained, but the food was the real standout! The tajines at dinner were the best I had throughout our entire trip to Morocco, with generous portions that left us completely stuffed. Breakfast was equally delicious, especially the Moroccan omelette. A special shoutout to the staff who organized the evening entertainment and bonfire, making the night even more memorable. The hospitality, food, and overall experience were exceptional. I only wish we could have stayed longer! Highly recommend Sahara Magic Luxury Camp to anyone looking for a memorable Sahara Desert experience."

Amanar Khaimas Desert Camp

10/10 Excellent

"The tents on the campground were beautifully appointed and felt like luxury hotel rooms, from a clean and comfortable bed to high-quality shower and bathroom areas. The personnel could not have been more attentive and accommodating and were helpful and supportive at every turn. Set dinners were well-priced and were very good. My one cautionary message would be some unexpected additional charges imposed by the camp. They charge 300 MAD ($30 US) per night for critically important nighttime air-conditioning (daytime heat in the Sahara makes nighttime in the tent unbearably warm), and 300 MAD ($30 US) for 4-wheel drive transportation, each way, between the main road in Mergouza (as near to the camp as most cars can go) to the camp. Our two nights at this camp were a fun and memorable experience — visits to nomadic areas and camel rides our favorite highlights — and would highly recommend it."

Berber Palace Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We had a fabulous time here. The staff, particularly the Manager, went out of their way to meet our needs. They made us feel welcome far beyond check out time, with use of their beautiful pool. Given the heat, this was greatly appreciated. A fabulous chicken tagine was made especially for us. Highly recommended!"

Desert Season Luxury Camp

10/10 Excellent

"A lovely welcome with Moroccan tea before departure, along with clear explanations of all the activities offered by the team. The tents were very comfortable and beautifully located in the heart of the desert. Everything was well organized, from the activities to the dinner and breakfast. A special mention to Saïd, who took care of the 4x4 driving through the dunes and was always available to help with anything we needed. The whole team was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, making the experience truly memorable."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Es-Sfalat?

The best area to stay in Es-Sfalat is the central area around the main square.

This neighbourhood is the heart of Es-Sfalat and offers the most convenient access to local amenities. It's characterised by its traditional Moroccan architecture, with many guest houses and local eateries clustered around the central market square. The square is a focal point for daily life and is usually bustling with activity, especially in the evenings.

For couples looking for a cultural experience, staying near the main square is ideal. You'll be within walking distance of local crafts shops, traditional tea houses, and often find live music or storytelling in the evenings. It's a great way to experience the local way of life directly.

Solo travellers will also find this central area very accommodating. The proximity to the market and local cafes makes it easy to meet people and arrange activities.

When is the best time to go to Es-Sfalat?

The best time to go to Es-Sfalat is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months.

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C. This avoids the intense heat of summer, which can often exceed 40°C, and the cooler, sometimes rainy, winter months. These shoulder seasons offer comfortable conditions for exploring the area's natural landscapes and historical sites.

For travellers interested in outdoor activities like trekking in the nearby Drâa Valley or exploring the desert landscapes, spring and autumn provide ideal temperatures. The days are long enough for extensive excursions without being overly exhausting due to heat.

Those seeking a relaxing escape will also find these months perfect.
