The Neighborhood: Old Strathcona is an historic district in south-central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Once the commercial core of the separate city of Strathcona, the area is now home to many of Edmonton's arts and entertainment facilities, as well as a local shopping hub for residents and students at the nearby University of Alberta. A good proportion of Edmonton's theatres and live-performance venues are also in the area. The district centres on Whyte Avenue and has shops, restaurants, bars and buskers. A large part of Whyte Avenue's popularity is the historical character of its buildings, many of which are one hundred years old. The oldest building is the Strathcona Hotel, built by the railway when it arrived in 1891\. Location is fantastic and the place was very nice. Fresh towels and bathrobes, coffee, beautiful birch tree art, private and quiet. I felt like I was staying in a 5 star hotel without breaking the bank. The host was very welcoming and even provided suggestions for brunch on our check out date!! The apartment was so cute and well decorated. Great location if you enjoy Old Strathcona. Great for my husband and I after a day of pickleball.
