We loved the location right on the water. We could see dolphins from the back deck! The staff was great, and we liked being able to rent boats from where we stayed. The units were clean, and the beds were so comfortable! The wifi was essentially non-functional which was a downside. We would also have liked the second bedroom to have two twin beds instead of another queen. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

This is not a Marina, nor is it Hotel. This property is a MOTEL that has not been renovated. If you don't mind staying in a motel from the 1970's, then this place would be fine. They would not give me a refund so I moved to the Fairfield Inn by Marriott which is an actual hotel. The hotel we stayed at ended up costing less than the Snug "Inn". Buyer beware. They have a strict no refund policy because they don't want to give everyone their money back once they see how old and outdated this property actually is.

WARNING! FAKE NEWS!This customer Danielle Kulp is a very dishonest person and has decided to spread lies about our little family business just because she didn't get her way, shame on you. Danielle Kulp booked a room with us and knew the cancellation policy, Snug Harbor does have a strict policy and we inform everyone about the policy and this customer even booked on Expedia and it is in big bold letters, no refunds. We have a strict policy because this is a seasonal business and we can not afford to tie rooms up and then have customers cancel at the last minute and miss the opportunity to rent our room. We only have 100 days to make our living. Now for the other side of the story.Danielle Kulp booked a room with us and after booking found out that we do not have a pool, she contacted Expedia and they told her there are no refunds on reservations. This made Danielle Kulp a little mad, she never stayed at Snug Harbor so she doesn't even know much about the hotel but decided to spread lies and be completely dishonest in her feedback. Snug Harbor is a waterfront hotel that has been in business for over 70 years. Snug Harbor is also a marina, we have 10 rental boats, 50 kayaks and 2 tour boats and we have 6 boat slips we rent to the public, so yes it is a marina. Each and every year we do renovations to the property and the cottages are beautiful and cozy with more charm than all the chain hotels. This customer decided to take her anger out and spread lies just because she didn't get a refund. One last thing to add, the customer never called us about the cancellation she only spoke to Expedia. If she had talked with us we could have told her that we don't have a pool but we do have something better!!! We have a private secluded beach, that you get to by boat. We also offer boat rentals, kayak rentals and we have boat and kayak tours around the islands, but maybe you were happy just getting a pool.

This property is located in a beautiful spot overlooking the water with views of Assateague Island in the distance. The lodgings are adequate but quite dated and aged for the price. Kayak, stand up paddle boards or boat rentals are available for an additional fee. A suggestion to the staff would be to offer guests a kayak or paddle for a couple of hours at no charge to offset the high room rate and allow guests to enjoy the beautiful surroundings at their leisure. Providing some ground coffee and a breakfast/welcome snack to have in the kitchenette would also be a nice feature for the price of accommodation.

We spent two nights at the Snug Harbor marina and Hotel in the Chincoteague. John and his wife was great and helpful. The cottage itself was outdated and there was potable air conditioner in the kitchen and the bedrooms were very hot. Overall the experience was great.

We loved everything about Snug Harbor! It was the perfect relaxing place to stray. So clean and right on the water. The owners were great people and really made us feel welcome. The guided kayak tour was the best part of our trip! We had such a wonderful time, we can't wait to return. We could see the wild horses from our covered deck. Every morning we sat and watched them while we had coffee. We are already looking to book our next stay here. Great place! I cannot say enough about it!

Snug Harbor has the real island feel. From the beautiful view, palm trees, quiet reggae music to a comfortable spotless cottage, I can truly say there is no other place like it on the island. We have stayed in a lot of different properties on Chincoteague but this is our new favourite place to stay. A very nice addition are boats, kayaks, paddle boards to rent as well as guided kayak and boat tours right on the spot. We did a boat tour with Capt.John and it was just wonderful! I wish we stayed longer.

Thank you for your review. Snug Harbor Marina is one of the longest running companies on Chincoteague island. Please don't mislead the public, Snug Harbor Marina is a marina, a small one but it is a marina. We have a total of 10 rental boats a fleet of 60 kayaks and a number of slip rentals for the public and customers. Snug Harbor is a very large resort and the waterfront villas in which you stayed was not near the marina. We have rooms that over look the marina and other rooms down the channel away from the docks. If you like being close to the marina please request that next time and we will give you a grand view of it, we have some waterfront rooms just a few steps away!

Shabby, overpriced
We looked forward to a weekend and decided to splurge - paid $350 a night - but were not expecting a cabin from the 1950s. An old, poorly equipped bathroom; a lumpy, pilled futon for a couch (glad we didn't have to sleep on it) no microwave it the kitchen, no paper towels (even after asking) no hair dryer (they did supply after asking) Mismatched dishes, plastic window blinds that wouldn't open and close without major effort. There was a loud noise that I thought was a bullfrog outside the window - but it was the refrigerator. If we had paid half the price I would expect some shabbiness, but we were truly shocked. The positive point of this place is the view- the marshes and lighthouse are gorgeous. The host was nice and helpful about the area. Maybe they can use the inflated price to make the inside nice, too.
Worn out futon
Bathroom sink - 1950?
Shower stall
But a beautiful view OUTSIDE

Snug Harbor is one of the longest running companies on Chincoteague island. Snug Harbor has been is business for over 60 years. We would love to address your concerns. The futon you refer to happens to be a brand new one with a new mattress with a brand new cover, so sorry you didn't like it we can't do much better than a new one. You stated we don't supply hair dryers but we do and we were very happy to get one for you upon request, we are very confused about this complaint. The window blinds are new and after the staff explained to you how to properly operate the complex opening and closing mechanism which transforms input forces and movement into a desired set of output forces and movement the blinds worked perfect. We did some investigating into the alleged bullfrog noise and we found out it was a giant blue heron that was feeding by your cottage, we did have other guests comment about the noise and we do need to apologize for the noisy wildlife. We are very disappointed that you didn't take pictures of the brand new granite counter tops, or maybe the brand new stove or maybe the plush pillow top beds? It seems maybe you have some experience in the media you only post specific statements to achieve your agenda. You also made a very negative comment about investing money into our business, we would like to say we have invested over $1,000,000 in the past 5 years, we invest in this property every year and that is the reason we have been here so long. Maybe you were not a good fit for Snug Harbor and that is ok all people are different. To like Snug Harbor you have to like wildlife surrounding you the ocean breeze in your hair and the smell of the great salt marsh out your window and sand between your toes. if you are wearing high heels this might not be the place for you. Thank you for coming.

Don’t stay here.
First off, we checked in and they charged me $50 per day per dog. I told them I had 1 and may have a second coming halfway through the trip. They charged me for both dogs regardless. And promised to reimburse me if the other dog didn’t come the entire time. I walked into the room and a used bandaid was in the floor. Then when I checked out they charged me for 2 extra days if 2 dogs and said they had video of me having 2 dogs there. When I asked to see the video he the owner said he could mail me the video and refused to show it to me. Then he went to the cottage and accused me of breaking stuff and called the police. The officer called me. Looked over the room and said this owner does this stuff all the time. And tries to over charge people. Room is not worth it.

Snug Harbor is one of the longest running hotels on Chincoteague Island. This customer is probably the worst one we have had in the last 60 years. This customer was one of the most rude and vulgar people we have ever served. We will give you the cliff notes version of what happened. The customer checked in to the hotel and lied about the number of dogs he had staying at the resort to save a few dollars and the management caught him with additional pets and charged him accordingly. The customer got upset and physically assaulted the staff and also was very verbally abusive and caused emotional distress to the staff. The customer also went to the cottage and caused property damage because of the additional charge. The police were called to document the property damages and to make sure this customer never comes back to our family business. Snug Harbor prides itself on being a family resort destination and we will always do what ever we can to make it a safe and family friendly environment and keep the bad apples out.

Paradise Island & Pony Island is what l call Chincoteague & Assateague! Snug Harbor Is what makes it my paradise! Captain John has best boat tour & Basia has best kayak tour on the island! You can look out the window of your very own cottage and see the water, sand, palm trees, Assateague lighthouse & ponies! They have tiki huts for happy hour & Adirondack chairs for lounging. It’s a family operated business for 5 decades and it shows in the hospitality you’ll find at John & Basia’s Snug Harbor Resort & Marina! Their experience, knowledge & attention to detail is unsurpassed. Your cottage is prepared for you by Maria, Basia’s mom. She even lights a candle & turns on the AC to ensure you feel welcomed & comfortable. Snug Harbor is located away from the hustle & bustle of the tourist area, right on the water. It is the most serene place l have ever visited. Thank you John & Basia for an unforgettable, awesome vacation!!

Rooms were very clean and we loved the waterfront view. Beds are comfortable and kitchen was stocked with dishes/utensils. The office was quick to send someone over in under 2 minutes to turn the heat on for us and the room got to a perfect temperature. Make sure to wake up for sunrise and walk out on the dock, you won't regret the view. They have all the water activities available for rent, very convenient although we did not have time to use it. Would definitely book here again!

The views were amazing and we had a nice time at Snug Harbor and on the morning of checkout we were wishing to stay another night. The only thing we would ask to change would be if the TV was in the sitting area we’re all the guest can hangout and watch instead of the TV being in the one bed room. Also having possibly a microwave would have been nice. Other than that we loved Snug Harbor and we will plan to comeback soon.

This place was disappointing from the very beginning. Way too expensive for what you actually get. The pictures make these little cottages seem grand. We wouldn't exactly call the view "waterfront" - even though you can walk out of the cottage and see the water, the pictures made us believe we may have a porch that faced the water, but we were next to the road. Our particular cottage was dated with a loud AC window unit (loud enough to interrupt our sleep several times and way too hot to turn off or even turn down). Good comfy bed, but no way you could sleep four people in this place. The pullout sofa was located directly across from the foot of the bed. Opening it up would have completely blocked any pathway from the door to the bathroom. Other major downfalls are that we could hear the guests next-door because the cabins share a wall. The coolest part about this place was the wide range of water activities offered - kayaks, paddle boarding, boat rides, etc. However, we thought the activity options were pretty expensive. We opted for the sunset boat ride at $50/person plus tax. We also took our dog for an extra $25 fee. When we got on the boat that evening, we were informed she couldn't sit, stand, or lean on the seat (she was wearing a life vest and was tethered to us). For the extra fee, that seemed unfair & the rules weren't disclosed to us when we paid for her. The boat ride lasted just about an hour - great views, but just an okay tour guide. Stay was average at best.

Thank you so much for coming to see us on Chincoteague island. We are so sad to read your review, but you forgot to tell all the details of your experience which sparked the motivation for the poor review. When the Captain set sail with this couple along with a family with small children the Captain did instruct the couple with the dog that we do not allow puppies on the seats. After leaving the dock and going about 50 yards down the channel the puppy jumps on the seats and the Captain asks very nicely please no puppies on the seats, this goes on time and time again during the tour and it was very clear to the Captain that the problem wasn't the cute dog but the seemingly nice couple slamming Bud Lights not paying attention to their dog, as time goes by the couple keeps popping tops on the brews and getting very tipsy until the bad words starting flying in basic conversation. The captain does not tolerate behavior like that from people especially when there were other people on board with small children. Please be a little more respectful when around children. We here at Snug Harbor specialize in family vacations and we do not allow or condone this behavior. We are not mad at the puppy or you but maybe not a good fit for our family vacation spot.

This was a relaxing get away to go view the wild ponies. Snug Harbor was across from the lighthouse with beautiful scenery and off the beaten path and "touristy" part of this small island. Highly recommend to take a boat tour of the island, so glad we did. Etta's and Bill's were excellent places to eat. The town is cozy and quaint.
