Hotel location was great, quiet area. A very warm welcome and friendly owner and staff. Spacious spotless room. Situated close to sea and amenities . lovely breakfast .

Mixed feelings .
Rather disappointed with the tired decor which was somewhat dark and depressing. The bath in my room was very old and quite stained. The old plumbing meant it took a very long time to get any hot water. The owner was proactive in asking for feedback which will hopefully lead to some improvement. Otherwise friendly atmosphere and good location.

Really interesting house with lots to look at - railway models, pictures etc etc, unique and interesting. Comfortable room, nice breakfast, very friendly. Cup of tea on arrival and made to feel welcome. The house is in an excellent position for the seafront, train and bus stations and the town. We would stay there again 😀

Charming hotel with a train theme. Great location for the sea front. Friendly, welcoming staff. Our room was massive. The whole hotel was like stepping back in time but in a good way. Breakfast food was great and the service was exceptional. Shower was either scalding hot or freezing in our room but I would imagine it's not the easiest to get reliable plumbing in such a big old building. Wouldnt put me off staying again at all. I felt like for the price it was great value.

A gem in Leighton.
What a gem. Delightful hotel owned and managed by Kathy. Very comfortable room, excellent tasty English breakfast, close to Paignton sea front. Safe car parking, easy access to arterial roads. Highly recommended to those who prefer the personal touch.

Lovely cosy room, brilliant wi-fi and a lovely welcoming host, I had a great stay here and would definitely come again. Breakfast was excellent too. Great value for money, I have paid twice as much to stay in hotels not half as good!

Worst nights stay of my life.
Service was OK but if you try to make a complaint they will call you a liar, fire extinguishers are blocked by furniture, don't expect staff to help you with anything as they are literally blind, the showers don't work properly, the fan heaters overheat and cut out, there are fleas in the beds, they get you to check the fuse boxes. The only thing nice about this BnB is the area it is situated in. I would advise though to stay at the travel lodge 5 mins down the beach as it is better quality and £20 per night cheaper.

I loved it
I visit Paignton 2/3times a year, and the Great Western is the best hotel/b&b that I have stopped at in Paignton from the moment I walked in the door I felt welcome my room on the ground floor was imaculte, warm(december) and comfortable bed with all the amenities.My breakfast was well cooked and enough (ask the chef not to put toast under the scrambled egg toast soggy) the only not good point for me.The up side for me (Great Western) is the amount of trian and rail membrobelia including model engines this was to me a bonus but generally my stay was really good.

Lovely stay in Paignton.
From the first greeting to our farewell, the hotel staff were friendly and engaging. The room was clean and well maintained. The location, meant that we were only a few minutes from the coast. Going into town was nothing more than a ten minute dander. We were very comfortable in this hotel and the amount of train models and memorabilia, gave it charm and character. Will be returning.

Very good guest house
Spent a couple of nights at the Great Western. The location is only 5 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from the train station. Was given a cold drink on arrival which was well appreciated after the long drive. The room was comfortable with a tv and bath. Breakfast was very good with plenary of choice. Owners were very friendly and helpful and even after checking out allowed me to leave my car in the car park for the day. Would stay again if in the area.

An unusual hotel, but a great experience!
It made a refreshing change from the usual modern surroundings. Yes, it's old-fashioned. Yes, the private museum of model trains and railway memorabilia makes it really unusual. But that all made it a different and enjoyable stay. The owners were different, but really friendly, chatty and welcoming - and the breakfast was great! It's close to the sea as well. A nice change from the Premier Inns of this world!

The place may not be everyones 'cup of tea' it's a little dated, BUT like an old pair of slippers it's very comfortable, Cathy the owner is lovely and so helpful. The breakfast was one of the largest I've ever had put in front of me, well cooked and presented. Lovely garden in the front and the Railway exhibits are wonderful. Only stayed for one night to attend a family event, but would have loved to stay longer.

Friendly warm welcome, affordable B & B,
We had a very warm welcome on arrival from Cathy and Mel, with the offer of tea or coffee. Compact double bedroom was ample for our 3 day break, with tea and coffee in room and more than enough storage space. Full English breakfast with cereals, toast, juice, tea and coffee. Plenty to keep you going until evening. A lovely hotel with bags of character and interesting collections, plus off road car parking. Very close to sea front, railway station and shops, can recommend local Indian and Chinese restaurants, both in Hyde Street, for evening meals. For live music “The Spinning Wheel” on sea front offers live music with a varied selection most evenings, just a short walk from hotel. We also found some other great little pubs in Paignton with live bands. Thank you Cathy and Mel for making us so welcome, our short break went too quick. Look forward to seeing you again when next in area.

judged on the basis of its type and price band staying here was an excellent experience. floral,chintzy but clean and well equipped rooms and a superrb breakfast makes this great value for money if not quite a michelin starred experience!

If you want good hospitality...........
I arrived at this B&B after a long journey to be greeted by a warm smile and after being shown to my room asked if I would like a cup of coffee. I travel a lot with work and this was a first! The railway memorabilia is fantastic and a definite visit for those that like trains! Many thanks to the owners who I would give 11 out of 10! Ok it is not the most luxurious of places I have stayed, but hospitality counts for a lot in my book.

Great Western in Painton
Stones throw from the sea front, old style guest house, clean and tidy, with an interesting dinning room full of model railways (thus the name). The FULL ENGLISH breakfast if anything was too much with 3 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, mushrooms and beans, together with tea and toast, did not have to eat for the rest of the day. would stay again.

The owners are lovely. Very good location of the hotel, pleasant sitting room, restaurant and garden. Rooms - small, although this was stated before we booked. Bed and matress really old, if they change the furniture in the bedrooms and refresh the rooms, it has a good potential. Breakfast - excellent.

The friendliest hotel in Paignton
I arrived after a long journey from London to be met by a welcoming, smiling lady who immmediately had a mug of tea in front of me. I was made to feel at home. The rooms are nice, the hotel has an air of friendliness and it was such a relaxing experience. The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to the station, the beach and the shops and yet is in a very quiet location. The couple running this hotel are very friendly. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and there was plenty of it. I only stayed for one night but will be going back very soon. GG
