Absolutely a must-stay for lovers of art and design. The whole property is immaculate, and the room was comfortable and quiet. Delicious drinks and pastries are steps away at Father Forgive Me and Warda Patisserie. The location is also convenient to downtown (15 minutes).

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
I love that it seems as if we have the whole place to ourselves. The wine bar was a delightful update since we wre here last year.
Enjoyed a staycation in one of my favorite parts of the city in this beautiful space that's full of character - and super clean. Thoughtful little touches. Loved the library, art work, spacious bathroom and the super comfortable bed.
Amazing little place! Great coffee. Comfy bed and super quiet. Only thing that would make it better is a mini fridge in rooms since no ready food options for early starters. That way can bring food if you like.
Stunning spot close to downtown! Felt like we were sleeping in an art gallery in the best possible way.
Bed was great, location was super quiet. Free off street parking and coffee in the morning downstairs. You can walk about 15 mins to West Village if you want something more substantial.
Absolutely one of the most charming stays I have ever had in the states!
The attention to detail from the linens, bath robes, towels, le labo soap and shampoo and conditioner (my ABSOLUTE fave brand),
To name a few are extraordinary!
The feel! The downstairs rooms to do work.
No TVs in the room, so you can turn off!
The landscaping outside
The neighborhood
SARAH!!! Incredible!
I could go on and on
Unless they are booked, I won’t hesitate ever staying here when I’m in Detroit! Wish we had a place like this in Columbus.
I highly recommend booking the entire place if you have guests that can fill for a work Confernece or wedding! It would be the bomb!
What a gem! We were so happy to have found ALEO to stay at. Everything was absolutely perfect from the second we booked. Sarah our host was so helpful and made us feel right at home. The details of the entire space are extremely intentional. Every room offered something different - so many books to read and get inspired from. Beds were very comfortable, rooms had large space and we got upgraded to a balcony which I highly recommend when choosing your room. The breakfast restaurant wasn’t opened yet but Sarah still provided breakfast every morning. They have tons of snacks, coffee tea etc. We rode bikes they provided which was tons of fun and checked out local artist spaces / shops. Father forgive me was packed everyday and had such a cool vibe. Food and drinks were great. No complaints about this space - we can’t wait to go back!
We decided on a spur of the moment to spend a night in Detroit just before Christmas and it is a bit late but I totally wanted to leave a review. We LOVED our stay at the Aleo which is just next door and connected to The Shepard. We felt like we were in an extension of the beautiful art gallery which is within a former church, Every room was so thoughtfully designed and contained multiple pieces of art. The bedroom we stayed in had a view of the sculptures on the property and a very nice deck. The king sized bed was so comfy with crisp linen sheets. We had access to sitting rooms, full use of the kitchen, complimentary snacks and drinks (liquor was on an honor system basis). The grounds contained multiple sitting areas. We definitely intend to return when the weather warms up to further explore the nearby area and revisit The Shepard. Aleo will be a perfect homebase given the proximity to The Dequindre Cut bike path which takes you right down to the Riverwalk.
Sarah provided exceptional hospitality, going out of her way to show us the amenities. Our room and the entire first floor of common areas were inviting, well-appointed, art-forward and yet commodious. Breakfast at Warda was “next level” and we appreciated having the vouchers for breakfast each day. Would recommend ALEO to anyone and would stay there again.
