"The Speech house was our first stop in the UK after arriving from the US. Having never traveled to the UK before everything was new and different! The staff were extremely kind, helpful, gracious, patient and accommodating. We relied on them for information of all kinds and would have struggle mightily if not for them! The food was very good--beautifully presented and delicious. We were graciously upgraded to a larger cottage room which was a tremendous benefit since we stayed for a week. (Thank you Chaz!) The property is beautiful, historic, and interesting. The trails that were accessible directly from the Speech House were a real treat and perfect for us since we did not have a car. Internet and cell service were mostly only available in the Lodge, so we needed to readjust our thinking and adapt our normal routines, which is a good thing. In our room some of usual creature comforts were a little lacking, but being in the forest in such an historic place with wonderful people more than made up for that! We can highly recommend the Speech House, especially to foreign travelers. "

"We had a lovely stay at the cottage and would happily return. The location is peaceful and perfect for a family break, surrounded by beautiful countryside and great walks nearby. It was an ideal base for exploring the Forest of Dean and the surrounding areas.The cottage itself was cosy, comfortable, and well equipped, and it felt very welcoming after long days out. Our children especially loved seeing the sheep and chickens greeting us at the front door, it made the stay feel extra special and really added to the countryside experience.Overall, a relaxing and enjoyable stay in a charming setting. Thank you for having us!"

"Rooms at the front of the hotel need blackout curtains as there is a powerful street light directly outside. Also buses stop beneath these rooms, some stopping there with engines running for five or more minutes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. "

"Overall a very well maintained and safe property. Only issue we had was ants in the kitchen and some grass roots coming through where the ants were coming through and some of the foot stools had cobs webs under them. We vacuumed it all but the ants kept coming back. "

"This is an aged property but they have done a great job keeping it clean. The bathrooms are remodeled with very good water pressure, sufficient space. Room is spacious for 2 of us with beautiful river view in Room 7. Daily cook to order breakfast is included in the room is a plus. The food here is delicious from breakfast to dinner. We had Easter Sunday lunch here unfortunately this wasn’t as good as the regular dinner. I assume it’s because of the large quantity of food the kitchen has to cook for the crowds. The location of the hotel is unbeatable. All hike trails are walkable from the hotel. Truly enjoyed our 2 nights stay. The staffs are very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely come back in the fall to see foliage in the area. "
