Welcome to Acorn Cottage, a large, family-friendly mountain retreat located in the gated community of Powder Horn Mountain. With wide-open mountain views, wrap-around porches, and plenty of space to gather or spread out, this cabin is ideal for multi-family vacations, reunions, or a relaxing getaway with friends.
Sleeping Arrangements | Sleeps 12 Comfortably
Main Level
The master bedroom features a king bed with an ensuite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has a king bed. Bedroom 3 has two twin beds. This level also includes a full hallway bathroom, a fully stocked kitchen, dining area, living room, laundry room, and foyer.
Lower Level
Bedroom 4 has a king bed. Bedroom 5 has a queen bed. Bedroom 6 is a bunk room with one set of bunks. A full bathroom is located on this level along with a den and movie area, plus a small craft and game space equipped with a karaoke machine and foosball table.
Cabin Highlights
The cabin offers wide-open mountain views, two wood-burning fireplaces, wrap-around porches with outdoor seating, a fire pit, and a large yard that is perfect for kids and dogs. The home is dog-friendly for dogs only. A fee of $50 per dog applies and is charged after booking. A maximum of two dogs is allowed unless prior approval is given.
Fully Stocked Kitchen
The large island kitchen is fully stocked for all your cooking needs. It includes plates, cups, mugs, wine glasses, silverware, knives, strainers, pots, pans, cookie sheets, measuring cups, measuring spoons, a drip coffee maker, a Keurig, crockpot, blender, full-size oven, full-size refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher.
Entertainment and Technology
All bedrooms are equipped with TVs and Firesticks. Both living rooms feature flat-screen TVs with DirecTV and Firesticks. The basement also includes a PlayStation and DVD player. There is a foosball table for friendly competitions and a collection of board games too!
Outdoor Living
Outdoor amenities include a propane grill with propane provided, a fire pit with seating, and wrap-around porches that are perfect for morning coffee or evening sunsets.
What’s Included
All linens are provided and beds will be made prior to arrival. Bath towels are provided and beach towels are provided during summer months. A starter supply of essentials is included, such as one roll of paper towels, one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, dish detergent, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, a sponge, and trash bags. A baby gate and Pack-n-Play are available; guests should bring their own sheets for the Pack-n-Play.
Location
Located in Deep Gap, NC within Powder Horn Mountain. The home is approximately 25 minutes to Appalachian State University and downtown Boone. Blowing Rock and Banner Elk are each about 35–40 minutes away. Area ski resorts are approximately 18–25 miles from the property (40 minutes to an hour and a half drive time). The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 9 miles away. The closest grocery store is Food Lion, located at the intersection of Highway 421 and Old 421 across from Tractor Supply. Nearby attractions include Leatherwood Mountain Resort for horseback riding and RV camping, as well as many local breweries and wineries including Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Booneshine Brewing, Grandfather Vineyards, and Banner Elk Winery. Guests should also check out the Lil’ Hidden Creek Gem Mine located just past the back gate of Powder Horn Mountain. Call ahead to have mining buckets ready for children. From winter sports to summer outdoor adventures, shopping and exploring local galleries and cuisine, spa days and golf adventures, this area offers something for everyone!
Community Amenities
Powder Horn Mountain is a private gated community. Guests have free access to the seasonal community pool, typically open from late May through early September. Additional amenities include a fitness center and game room—both in the clubhouse, a playground, paddle boats, tennis/pickle ball court, basketball goal, disc golf course, and fishing in three community ponds or in Laurel Creek or Elk Creek. Fishing in the creek requires a valid North Carolina Fishing License. The community also offers miles of well-marked hiking trails, as well as a campground along Laurel Creek that is ideal for an evening fire, s’mores, or a game of horseshoes.
