Not so cheap and cheerful
On the positive side, the staff were efficient, polite and friendly. If you like Indian sub-continent food, the independently run resturant is ok, the food being spicy but with too much sauce/gravy for my taste. The WiFi was ok. Less positively, there were only three (France 24, CNN and Al Jazeera) English language news channels. The hotel, probably for reasons of the owner's/manager's religious beliefs was teetotal; while this is not a problem, it should be advertised. Cleanliness was a challenge - I saw two small cockroaches so there were definitely many more and breeding. The area was characterised by very small shops, unpaved roads (so dusty) and noise. The bed was hard and the pillows lumpy.

The hotel is clean and a few steps away from a mall with good supermarket. Taxi stands and main road are just there downstairs. Staff are very friendly and way better than any hotel I stayed at recently they are extremely respectful and caring. Great value for money.

Great value in the city centre
The Iris Hotel is located in the city centre in an area that is both local and central - to the city, to the Zanzibar ferry and convenient (enough) for the airport. Expectations should be pitched at the price - true it's a little rough around the edges but the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's safe but usual precautions apply. The breakfast is adequate and is served in a comfortable and very clean dining room. Bedrooms have cable TV (if that's important to you), AC and a fan. WiFi only works in public areas but the signal there is strong. I'd have no hesitations recommending this hotel if you're looking for a central, clean and value-for-money hotel

Stolen money from the room. Do not stay.
We got stolen $400 USD from our room, and the hotel doesn't want to take responsibility for it. We were one gone for only 2 hours and the door was locked. Staff steals there. Will never stay again and will not recommend.

Better off hanging at the airport
Very spartan by any standard. No blankets or towels given. Bed like sleeping on a door with sheets. Was so uncomfortable I did not sleep anyway. Should have just stayed at the airport.... would have gotten more sleep.

Excellent Budget Option
Really comfortable room in a really nice place with friendly, warm staff. Best budget option I have experienced in Dar Es Salaam, and was much better quality than I was expecting. Food places close by as well.

Very short stay
We stayed at F10 on two occasions; initially for 2 nights (twin room), then for a single night (double room/bed) ten days later. The room we had on our second visit was significantly nicer than the initial room, despite both on the same floor, 3 doors apart from each other. I would recommend booking a double room in opposed to a twin room. Though the furniture in the room looks rather tired and worn, the room was very clean and tidy, with A/C, a fridge and television. We did see a cockroach on our second arrival but it was a single incident and it is difficult not to encounter bugs while in Africa. The staff were soooooo helpful and made our stay really comfortable. The hotel is located in a clutter of side roads so expect to get lost in the local area if travelling on foot. The local area has everything you'd need from internet cafes, to big markets - the location is very good.

The hotel is in middle of the city Kariakoo. Its a basic hotel. No WiFi inside rooms, you need to come to the lobby to access internet. Most popular channels available to watch.

Nice pre departure hotel
arrived and was checked in within minutes. The rooms cleanliness is average. There isn't much facilities, the shower hasn't got a shower curtain therefore there can be splash after shower. The hotel has a restaurant within but can't comment on the food as didn't get a chance to try it. However, the hotel does offer free wifi which can be accessed from the lobby. The wifi was handy for checking in flights. In addition, there is plenty of taxis outside which can be used to access local attractions and eateries including the town centre. The airport was roughly 10 minutes away as it was early morning without any traffic. This may be hectic at other times due to the heavy traffic within the city.

Overnight stay in Dar es Salaam
The room was clean with a comfortable bed. However, there was no hot water and the tv in the room wouldn't work. Even after speaking with maintenance and the promise that they would come up to fix it, no one had turned up. The internet was extremely slow and wouldn't work most of the time. No room service as they had closed the kitchen, and had not advised me until I rang to order. Luckily there is a restaurant around the corner and the markets were in walking distance. Okay if you're after a cheap overnight stay.

Good for a single night before a flight
This hotel is not great and not in a great location, but it is close to the airport and the staff will really strive to help. The staff English isn't the strongest, but they are helpful. A manager went far out of his way to help us mail some packages back to the states at a nearby DHL. We only stayed one night as it was really just for us to get by the airport and be set to go.

Friendly welcome in lively Kariakoo
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and there was even a beauty salon on the premises, perfect for tired travelers. We also felt very safe with two guards at the door at all times. On the slightly less positive side, the air conditioning was extremely loud, and there were mosquitoes in our, as one of the windows had been left open. Unfortunately, there were no mosquito nets, either. Overall though, a lovely experience. We also enjoyed the Kariakoo area with the famous market at a walking distance. Would definitely go back!

Eh, it was ok
the hotel was very basic. we didn't have sheets/blanket one night. close to a mosque so prayers will start at 5am. wifi only available in lobby, and less than reliable. staff was nice though. very basic accommodations. bathroom is toilet and shower in one.

Inexpensive hotel good for short stays
I booked F10 Livingstone Hotel because I needed a place to stay for a night after flying into Dar and before continuing on to Iringa the next day. This hotel met my expectations-- much nicer than the transit hotels I've stayed in near the airport, but still a quick drive from the airport (after traffic jam hours). WiFi in the lobby, and cable TV, air conditioning and hot water in the bedroom. A simple breakfast was provided as well. Sure, it wasn't in the nicest area of the city, but those areas come with a higher price for similar accommodation.

Mediocre stay in Dar
We stayed overnight in Dar recently at the Formula 10 Livingstone Hotel. The hotel staff were generally kind and friendly. The hotel had some decent slow internet access in the lobby. The rooms were generally nice, but the windows were unable to lock and opened to a balcony that could easily be accessed from other rooms. I didn't feel any of my items were safe in the room. The hotel closed its restaurant since I was here last - which is unfortunate. The staff were not helpful or knowledgeable about providing additional eating options - other than saying to head to the "Holiday Inn." My shower was broken, but we had warm water and I bathed in the faucet attached to the showerhead. One of our rooms smelled like cigarette smoke - and other was quite musty. My room was pleasant. My AC worked well, and there are also fans in the rooms. We didn't have mosquito nets, so some of our group were bitten during the night. Breakfast was okay - some coffee, tea, bread, milk, cereal, and fruit. It would have been nice to have some protein (potentially eggs) to start the day. All in all the stay was okay - but not great.

Convinient Hotel for Stop-overs
We flew into Dar Es Salaam on route to a Safari holiday so wanted somewhere to stay briefly in Dar on the way out and back. This hotel fitted the bill fine. It was economical, clean and comfortable but obviously not posh. The staff were very friendly and always tried to help with advice about restaurants etc.

Cheap stay in Dar es Salaam. The hotel is located in Kariakoo so-called a busy place, but convenient surroundings with a supermarket "citymall" and nice local restaurants as well. I was satisfied with my staying at this place.

We arrived to Dar at 3:00 a.m. But Hotel provided for hotel shuttle, really apreciate. Medium hotel, clean with nice staff, but facilities has to be improve, as well bathrooms.

Nice experience
I arrived late and spent one night at Livingstone hotel together with my boyfriend from Zanzibar, who arrived earlier. The room was totally perfect for the night. Cute and clean, and the breakfast the day after was alright to. I will most likely stay there again.

Goed budget hotel!
Mijn bagage was kwijt geraakt tijdens mijn vlucht. Hotel heeft mij hier heel goed mee geholpen om te zorgen dat ik dit zo snel mogelijk terug kreeg. Personeel is zeer vriendelijk. Kamers zijn schoon en ruim. De ligging is midden in het hectische centrum. Heel dichtbij de kariakoo markt!

Service är det inget fel på då vi kom fick vi ett rum ut mot bakgården utan en välfungerande dush men detta rättades snart till av managern, så vi fick ett bekvämt rum med fungerande inredning samt balkong. Dock är jag något besviken på frukosten, då jag gärna skulle se ett något fylligare utbud, för det priset som dom tar per rum,, och ja jag kommer förmodligen att åka dit igen.. HAKUNA MATATA
