Close to Custer, SD

Staying at the Papoose was the icing on the cake for our 2016 Black Hills vacation! One morning while we were making breakfast we saw three fawns out our kitchen window. I would highly recommend the cabin!

It was the best stay I have ever had in a cabin, and I have been in many throughout my life. I had such a relaxing and peaceful time that I didn't want to leave. I had everything I needed and more. The hosts were so kind and left the lights on when I arrived late. Great stay.

Nice, secluded cabin in the Black Hills

We enjoyed our stay at the Papoose. Pat (the owner) was great with her communication. Our biggest objection to the cabin is the sleeping arrangements in the loft and the bathroom on the main level. We were aware of this when we booked but, being older, we didn't appreciate what a problem this presented for us at night.

There should be a standard that expedia expects from their listings. This place was terrible and very expensive. The area around the cabin was not maintained and overgrown. Furniture is dated and very dusty and worn. No footpath to the door. The linen and towels were awful, we stopped at Family Dollar and bought sheets and towels. I could still get over everything, but the water was the worst, it stinks like rotten eggs. We only stayed one night, this place sucks. It was very hot and we couldn’t open the door in the bedroom because the screen door did not fit properly. Open the door and the room is full of Moths and bugs. Won’t even send my worse enemy to this place. It was terrible…

Our family really enjoyed our stay here. There is no WiFi or cell service (AT&T) so it gave us a chance to tech detox for a week and it was really nice. The cabin itself is very private and just outside of town so trips in for eating or activities were easy. This was a nice change from a regular hotel option where you always hear neighbors. It was secluded and private and had plenty of space to move around. It was a great cabin experience! We’d easily stay here again next time back to SD!
