Carregfelen is a beautiful, unusual and quirky 14th Century 7 bedroom Manor House set on its own wooded 2000 acre Estate between Porthmadog and Criccieth on the Llyn Peninsula. Sleeping up to 11 guests, it was extended in the 1920's by the owner's Uncle (Clough Williams-Ellis - Portmeirion), and is full of charm and character. Outside are sloping lawns, a wildflower meadow and orchard which burst with fruit over the summer. Inside are twisty corridors, marvellous antique furniture and staircases that date back to the 1600s. The ancient oak woodlands are a joy to explore. The ground floor comprises a beautifully furnished hall, a cosy sitting room with an inglenook, a magnificent dining room with an oak refectory table and a lovely kitchen. Trot up two steps to find a sitting room for children – sofa, toys, books, TV – and two good bedrooms (one double and one twin). On the upper floors are the rest of the bedrooms, full of character and style, and big old-fashioned bathrooms with up-to-the-minute showers. No need to fight for the views: every room has one. Add to this high speed broadband and contemporary fittings and you won’t want to stray too far.
Carregfelen nestles on the private, leafy Wern Estate on the edge of Snowdonia. This is the gateway to enjoy the very best that the Llyn Peninsua has to offer. The mountains of Snowdonia; the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways; Glorious Castles; Walking, Sailing and Fishing. The delightful seaside town of Criccieth is only minutes away, with its sandy beach and splendid Castle, as is the superb beach at Black Rock. Snowdon is only 35 minutes away - either climb to the summit or take the little railway and enjoy a drink in the new cafe.
Tatler "to see this house on a June evening is enchanting: roses running wild, candles blazing and, of course, those mesmerizing views. A true midsummer night's dream"
