Cosy Mountain retreat in a historic old gold mining town

Cosy Mountain retreat in a historic old gold mining town

8/10 Good
"This is a historic property in beautiful Walhalla. Host Larry is lovley, responds quickly with information and to enquiries. The house is situated on a steep embankment with the driveway coming two thirds to the house. Guests must walk uncovered outside steps leading to the house to enter. This information would be better disclosed in the information provided about the property first up. Anyone with mobility issues may not be able to access the house. Carrying suitases and heavy luggage up the steps in the rain is not ideal! The second 'bedroom' is 'divided' by a cloth divider - and this room is the walkthrough from kitchen to the loungeroom. Great kitchen with all you could need and very cosy with the fire in wintry conditions. Truly an experience."

Quiet and Tranquil in Coongulla

Quiet and Tranquil in Coongulla

10/10 Excellent
"Had a relaxing stay at Lake Glenmaggie over the New Years break. The whole famiy enjoyed the native birdlife and close proximity to the boat ramp as well as nearby picnic/swimming areas. The house was well appointed and had everything we needed and our dog enjoyed local walks and sniffing around the secure backyard. Sunsets on the deck were lovely and we enjoyed daytrips to nearby wineries and townships. Our hosts were very accommodating and attentive. Thanks a bunch!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Coongulla?
The best area to stay in Coongulla is right in the heart of the village, particularly along the foreshore of Lake Glenmaggie. This central area is where you'll find most of the holiday rentals, often with direct lake access or just a short stroll to the water. The main boat ramp and picnic areas are concentrated here, making it very convenient for water-based activities. It's a small, quiet community, so everything is within easy reach. For families, staying near the lake foreshore is ideal. Children can enjoy swimming, kayaking, or simply playing by the water's edge, often directly from your accommodation. The open spaces and easy access to the lake mean less travel time and more time for relaxation and fun.Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will also appreciate the lakefront properties. The serene views and the opportunity for leisurely walks along the shore provide a great backdrop for a relaxing getaway.
When is the best time to go to Coongulla?
The best time to go to Coongulla is during the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November). These periods offer pleasant weather conditions, with warm, sunny days that are ideal for outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and hiking around Lake Glenmaggie. You'll avoid the intense heat of summer and the cooler, sometimes wet, conditions of winter. The natural beauty of the surrounding Gippsland Lakes region is particularly striking in spring with wildflowers, and in autumn with changing foliage. For those looking for a relaxing escape with fewer crowds, particularly couples, these shoulder seasons are perfect. You'll find it easier to book quality accommodation and enjoy the tranquil environment without the busy atmosphere of peak summer. Many local eateries and shops are still fully operational, providing a comfortable and convenient experience. If your primary interest is water sports and you don't mind warmer temperatures and more people, then the peak summer months (December to February) can also be a good choice, especially for families.
