Lots of space in a great location
We came as a group of family and friends to observe the eclipse. We wanted plenty of space and proximity to other things to do, like hiking and the winery. This fit the bill and was quite affordable too. In addition to enjoying the property, we drove to Letchworth State Park, which’s was only 45 mins away abs very worthwhile. We loved the (steep) hike down to hemlock lake, and the short walk to Oh-Neh-Da Winery too. It was a great home base for our long weekend.

FALSE ADVERTISING
The ad on VRBO states, “sleeps 16” & details the beds in every room. During my stay 5 people slept there. In the ad under IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW it states, “Extra person charge MAY apply & varies depending on property policy.” I was unable to locate anything resembling Property Policy in or attached to the ad on VRBO. I am being charged more than $100.00 for an extra person(s)? The host refuses to refund this money to me! WHAT IS THE POLICY? The host has CHASTISED me for not getting his permission 1st to hold a party in the house prior to doing so. (I held a brunch on a Sunday morning for approx. 25 people.) In his ad he states twice that PARTIES & EVENTS ARE ALLOWED ON SITE AS WELL AS CORPORATE RETREATS, WEDDINGS, ETC.. There is no mention of needing to get permission first. Lastly, when I made my reservation there was a piece in the ad that described a certain level of disinfection they use to clean their high touch areas. That piece is now gone from the ad. Upon arrival it was clear to me that high touch areas were not clean much less disinfected. Thank goodness for CLOROX WIPES, paper plates, aluminum foil, plastic utensils, etc. Most distressing were the RODENT DROPPINGS everywhere including the eating utensils, pots, pans, dishes, countertops & tabletops in kitchen & living room. Also of large concern was the MOLD. My 2 guests took 1 look at the mold all over the ceiling in the upstairs bathroom & stated that they were quite sure it resembled BLACK MOLD!

Lovely Holiday Getaway
We had a lovely time at this property. Korey was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. The home is definitely older and showing its age in some areas (the one shower only worked sporadically, the oven worked but we couldn't turn it above 350, small things like that), but we had a great time regardless. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best while we were there so we were unable to fully explore the property but it was in a nice, quiet area and we were all comfortable during our stay. Having 2 families together, we loved that there were 2 rooms with King beds and more than enough room for the children to sleep! It was nice to have extra freezer space with the chest freezer and there were plenty of games for the kids to play with. Overall a nice home and a great visit!

Excellent accommodations. House fully stocked with any and all utensils needed. Host Korey Buzzell was always available to address any concerns we had. Rural location nice and stores nearby. Would recommend it to anyone. Only problem I encountered was the BBQ grills definitely need to be replaced. Can't wait to return next year.

Amazing place
What a cool old place in the woods! I took the downstairs bedroom with the comfiest mattress! Our host was friendly and gave us a personal tour of the old Mission in front. We wish we had stayed longer to explore more. The chickens running around were so cute and it added to the country woods charm of this old place! Cool woodwork inside, stained glass windows, a real bargain at twice the price!!

Nature and History
We really enjoyed our stay in the old convent house! The property is amazing. We explored the old grotto, hiked down to Hemlock Lake, saw coyotes and deer and snakes, enjoy the fire pit, and played in the grassy yard. It was a great place for our horde of kids to run amok. Korey was gracious enough to give us a tour of the buildings and provide information about the history of the mission. The neighborhood is great for running and biking as well. We are so appreciative of the chance to stay here and would highly recommend to anyone.

WONDERFUL!!!!!
We drove in to see family nearby. The scenery was so beautiful and with the extra room it was a great place to talk with family and close enough to everything that you would need. The host was fantastic. Very friendly & attentive, I would definitely recommend staying here if you are traveling with a small or large group, we had s very nice time playing the piano and singing as well as enjoying the campfire. It would be perfect for a reunion or just a get together, there’s so much to see just on the property. Definitely recommend staying there, especially if you enjoy history & are looking for a large place with a reasonable rate. Next time I would recommend reserving for longer! Great time😊

Mission
We stayed in the the old convent. It housed all 12 of us easily. This home is older and has its quirks. It does not have all the amenities of a newer home. It does not have any AC. The home is on the property of an Old Mission. There are people that reside in the Mission year round and another part that is rented out for short stays. I say that to let you know you are not alone on the property. The host and people that live there are very accommodating and willing to give you a tour of the Old Mission. The Grotto is in ruins and fun to explore at your own risk. The winery down the road is amazing and we highly recommend a visit. This property is very remote and has beautiful scenery. You will be about 20-30 mins away from gas stations/grocery stores. We enjoyed our time!

Family Christmas Gathering
The house was perfect for our needs. We had a big group of 11 adults and some grandchildren and had a great time. The kitchen has no dishwasher but that was no problem. It was spacious and had plenty of all the kitchen things one would need. I was worried the living room might be small but it was fine and very cozy. There was a basement and attic the kids had space, too. One afternoon we drove half an hour to go skating, we enjoyed walks outside too and what an interesting area to hike in. Mostly it was needed for us to hang out, exchange christmas gifts and enjoy a reunion. We also booked a dinner 10 minutes away at the turtle stone grill through emails and they were so accommodating. This place was good for us because it's not pristine and with so many kids you didn't have to worry too much about them bumping into things, etc.. they had games and puzzles available too. Korey was a great host, ready to field and question and very easy going

Delightful experience and some great relax meditative time. We also did some great day trips to Niagara Falls and the small lakes in the area . there was a turning point park that was the most enjoyable walk on a boardwalk along the water. Letchworth state park was a great time and they also have a pool. The place is not a five-star or even a four-star hotel it is a missionary with a great history and needs a lot of work but it’s what you’re looking for a great relaxing experience. Perfect Weekend Getaway
This home is perfect for a family getaway. We were 13 people total and the house was of great size to support us all. Being it was during off season I was concerned about not having much to do, but the weathered cooperated and everyone had a great weekend exploring the property. Korey, was absolutely wonderful. He brought us farm fresh eggs from their chickens and gave us a tour of the buildings. When I found this booking, I honestly thought it was too good to be true, but it was exactly as it states and even better than I imagined. Everyone who came is excited to book again in the summer, but for a week next time! Thanks again Korey!

I've been favoring short-term rentals for The last 5 years and this is my favorite so far.
I have to start by saying this location might not be for everyone. If you're looking for a fancy pampered experience, you might not find it here. But, if you are looking for a TRUE EXPERIENCE, then you should not let this gem slip away. The mission buildings are an ongoing restoration project. We did not choose a single room rental, but instead went with the full rental of the nunnery. Creaky wooden floors and Good vibes for the people who used to call this home. Deer in the yard EVERY morning, chickens on your walk down to the grotto's. Ahhh, I want to go back now. The coolest and rarest experience was to explore those grottos. It's not deemed safe but you are allowed to enter at your own risk. This means, no tour guides, just you exploring ancient ruins. Okay, I think it has to be more than a hundred years old to be called ancient, but you can tell yourself whatever you want as you carefully explore these caves. I imagined I was playing tomb raider or uncharted 😁 Korey was ready for any questions we had ( yes the grottos are posted, but it's on the mission grounds and you're a guest) and I would absolutely book again because there is so much in the area that deserves a lot more attention than we were able to give it in five days.

Beauty, serenity, and history - with comfy beds
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the former nunnery on the mission grounds. It had all that we needed, and then some, in terms of space to spread out or enjoy being together. There is a beautiful view and space to sit on the front porch along with a ready to go fire pit (though we didn't use it.) We used four of the eleven beds and all of them provided a very comfortable night's sleep. A 20 minute walk/hike will reward you with a tranquil rocky beach on the edge of Hemlock Lake, one of two undeveloped lakeshores in the Finger Lakes. The "pay it forward" kitchen system was great for cooking more than I planned because of spices, seasonings, and condiments. Plenty of cooking equipment as well. You're in the middle of the woods with assorted critters - deer, fox, raccoons, and turkey among others. Think of the nunnery as something akin to lovely farmhouse with beautiful hardwood floors and lots of wood trim. Korey was kind enough to take us through parts of the mission building and chapel, many of which have been out consistent use for 50 years. We enjoyed imagining what it would have been like for the residents, students, and church attenders who would have used the space. Note that the mission is shown in the listing, but the separate home that you stay in is located behind and beside the long sprawling building. We hope to visit again.

My stay
It was a great time , but the only draw back was the weather, we canceled one full day of activity because it rained but we compensated with letting the kids play out in the rain because there is plenty of room for activities and they, I'm sure, enjoyed doing that as much as going somewhere that would have cost a bunch to do the same thing run around and play games. The mission house was the perfect size for our group and having a fire pit made the evenings a great time to catch up on things all and all it was a fun time for everyone

This is the 3rd visit to the Mission House because it’s secluded and adventurous. With the virus that is so easily spread, this was a good choice. The house is spacious and the linens were clean. However, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the place and the lack of decent hot water pressure.

A wonderfully comfortable house
This was a great place for our family to gather for a nearby wedding. There was plenty of space for cousins - aged 2-11 - to spread out yet be together and I loved the "pay it forward" policy of encouraging guests to leave extra food for the next guest. We brought more than enough for our two days there, so was happy to leave unused food in the freezer. Owner was very friendly and helpful. One one disappointment was not enough time to explore the grounds ... maybe next time.

Beautiful, historic, nature-filled and a wonderful host
This is our second time staying at the Mission House and we love it.Our host provided fascinating historical information via internet articles that I strongly recommend reading as you will enhance your appreciation of this wonderful and unique property. The home is large enough for a gathering of friends and family and yet provides nooks and crannies for privacy, comfort and peace. Nature abounds by walking on the property, across the road to Hemlock Lake or driving a mere 20 or so miles to beautiful Letchworth State Park. If you choose to stay at this terrific place, you will have made a wonderful decision. Enjoy!

Not the greatest choice
This property is located in a rural area close to Hemlock lake. Pros: Location is safe. History of the mission is interesting. Cons: This place was way too dirty for us. We spent the entire first day just cleaning. We did not even have enough towels but found wet ones on the floor in the basement that we had to wash and dry. Several of the beds were not even made and I question whether or not the ones that were made were clean. This property needs to invest in some quality linens to say the least. They have a pay it forward motto so there was other people's leftover food in the refrigerator. We would have preferred a clean refrigerator any day. The pots and pans and dishes were not anywhere near being nice. They need replaced. The bathroom was filthy with a used band-aid even left in the tub. The property has been remodeled some but still needs more work. The biggest complaint by far was that it was really dirty.

Response from VrboOwner on Apr 2, 2020
Wow, we're floored by this particular review, and will respond point by point. Wet towels on basement floor: we can't disprove it, though we wash and dry as appropriate. Unmade beds: could also be true since we don't necessarily make every bed. The home sleeps up to16, and generally we prepare enough beds to accommodate the party and a few extra. Rates are based on guests, and rarely some will pay for one number, and then bring in more, therefore we don't always make all beds for a small group. Clean beds: Simply not true and speculative at best; again we wash as appropriate between each group/visit. Quality linens: It is true that we don't necessarily have the silk sheets and cashmere blankets that you might expect at a five star resort, but definitely are not as this reviewer portrays. We have many new linens and replace any worn or stained items. When replacing we buy quality, but not top shelf. If we supply top of the line, we have to charge accordingly and surely the 99% understand and appreciate this. Pay it forward kitchen: I wouldn't say it is a "motto" perhaps more so a belief and we do have such a kitchen, which most enjoy. In other words, we have condiments which remain from group to group; ex: ketchup, mustard, various dry goods, butter, creamers, teas, coffee etc... We believe we should conserve instead of being wasteful humans and so we don't throw these types of things away. We'd never allow an unclean fridge, or expiring items to remain. Pots and pans need replacing? Perhaps we could use some gourmet cooking equipment, but again, such would require higher end costs. What we have in our opinion is perfect for the 99%. Overall cleanliness: This is a huge leap, that is was "really dirty". It portrays a bad picture. It is true that we may not perform white glove inspections between every group, but we do take a lot of care in the cleanliness of our home, even using natural products vs harmful chemical cleaners. I'd encourage readers to examine all of the other glowing reviews and realize that these claims are extreme. Can we disprove a band aid in the shower? No, of course not, but we highly doubt it. I suspect more so that these 1%'ers would complain no matter what, proving that you can please most, but never all of the people in this world. Remodeled property: The property hasn't been "remodeled some". Eight years ago it underwent a full restoration, sparing no expense from basement to attic and the quality speaks. See all reviews.

A Great Place for a Family Get-together
The Mission House provided a great place for three generations to spend time together. We roasted marshmallows, put together jigsaw puzzles, went into Livonia for arcade games and ice cream with the kids, hiked down to Hickory Lake, and had a picnic at the winery just down the road. Host Korey was welcoming, and was also responsive to questions and concerns. We loved having the space for everyone to be able to retreat and refresh. We plan to return!

Away from it all in beautiful surroundings!
Our family came from 5 different states to meet at the "convent/nunnery" and had more than enough room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The house is very unique, solid and has a tale of it's own to tell I'm sure. Korey is a friendly, terrific host who even shares his chickens eggs with his temporary "renters'. The 4 days we were there it rained all but one day, but the big front porch meant the kids could still go outside. We were lucky in that it was not extremely hot because only 1 room has air conditioning, but that said, all the windows have full screens allowing windows to be open from either top or bottom (or both) for breezes. There are some "mystery" light switches, but generally, we found all the important ones. One of the bathrooms upstairs is really nice with a walk in shower big enough for all 3 kids at once had they wanted to shower together. You don't need to bring condiments or basic spices because there were plenty there as well as cooking utensils, unless there are some that you just really like of your own (like a manual camping espresso maker!😁) We were grateful that we were able to bring our medium and small dogs because our pet sitter was unavailable that week. They were quite fascinated with the smells & noises of the woods around us, but unfortunately for them unless leashed and with us, they didn't get to explore or bother the wildlife nearby other than the occasional barks! The grandkids loved their presence as well for extra play buddies. One of my daughter's and her husband brought their bikes and were able to go for morning rides to neighboring towns and found that the area is great for that because roads are not too busy and people in cars respected the people on the bikes. All of us did explore the grottos (or at least part of them for the 92 year old gentleman) and felt that was an extra bonus about the property which added quite a bit to the whole experience. (You definitely will need good hiking shoes for that though!) Rochester is close enough that day trips are easily done which we took advantage of given the rain. One could even go to Niagra Falls from here for a long day trip. If it were up to me, I'd love to make this and annual or semi-annual place for family vacationing! The picture shown with this review is not the house, it is the "castle" next to it and a different rental and experience of it's own. Groups of deer gather on it's front grounds at dusk and there is a closeby hoot owl too.
