Very confused by the number of 5* reviews as this wasn’t our experience at all. We wouldn’t stay again and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone else. Two biggest issues were that the hotel is right next to a main road that is incredibly noisy. The hotel provides earplugs, but if you’re at a stage of providing earplugs then really this should be stated in the hotel descriptions as light sleepers have no chance, not to mention the entire bed shaking as larger trucks go past. Second major issue is that our room was 2/3s half height due to slanted ceilings. As two tall people this was really inconvenient and proved a nightmare when it came to the shower which is tiny due to the restricted full height space. Windows also cannot be opened as clearly the hotel is very close to a farm or treatment plant, so the smell is awful. Outside of these issues, there were other minor ones such a no space to place bags or toiletries, plug sockets being totally inaccessible and poor quality toilet paper. Really this hotel should have its main issues cited on the website, though, as if you’re tall/have a bad back/are a light sleeper then this place just isn’t for you.

I stayed two nights in this hotel with my husband and my husbands relatives. It was mostly a good stay. The room was clean and a good size for two people and had an en suite bathroom. It was not too far from where we were visiting which was a plus point. Being of a certain age and not very mobile we were glad that we only had one flight of stairs to climb to the room. The food we had was good but the service was a bit slow at breakfast time. To improve the comfort of the room it would have been nice to have had a chair to sit on for reading and/or using the computer.

Fabulous staff. Quirky boutique-style hotel. Brilliant toilet roll creativity! Earplugs a great idea! Ultra clean. But mainly fantastic, friendly staff. Excellent food. Compliments to the chef!

The hotel was spotless and very clean, the amenities were great and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The area was nice and the free parking was a great addition. The only thing that made me upset was the noise from the room above. The noise woke me up early morning and I could hear each and every sound which was very irritating and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I stayed 2 days but it was the same, the squeaking of the door stopped after the first day when I advised the reception staff to oil it but the noise from the floorboards were too much. If you’re a light sleeper like me then you need to think otherwise all good!

The hotel was very clean good standards. All the staff very friendly and gave excellent service. We didn't eat evening meal but they looked very nice but we did eat the breakfast which was excellent and there was to much for me too eat. They used high standards of product and everything looked home cooked well done will definitely be returning when back in the area.

Short stay here, lovely welcome and all staff eager to please. Food was excellent compliments to the chef, vey pleasant easy atmosphere I would definitely recommend to fellow travellers looking for a place to stay while visiting Chester. Thank you to all staff.

Nice, clean hotel with easy access into Chester. Triple room, on the small side but okay for 3 night stay. We had room 3 which is above the bar, at the front of the Hotel. This unfortunately had some noise from the bar and road and shaking from the traffic , this being said you do get used to it and it would not really put us off returning. Room cleaned daily. Comfy beds. Sound does travel through the rooms so expect some noise. The breakfast was really nice with a good selection and value , we had one evening meal which was also nice. The staff were really helpful and friendly and that’s what really made this place.

Great location about 8mins from the town centre so about £8 Uber to the cinema (Center of town) Over all fantastic only down side was the pillows were abit to hard for me personally & no tea bags in the room only hot chocolate and coffee, sugar, milk ect but no tea bags but can come and go as you please. Food was amazing honestly fantastic highly recommend the pancakes (and bacon trust me!) and the full English. Staff were superb to say the least overall very friendly and helpful with suggestions and remembering our plans and asking about our day showing true care.

Lovely hotel within a pub. We had a ground floor room and although it was close to the car park and the road there wasn't too much noise. Earplugs have been provided. Room small but spotlessly clean. Good shower and fluffy towels. Fantastic staff. Warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Good selection of food for dinner. Well priced and really tasty. Breakfast is not included so it leaves you options from the menu. Full English 10/10. Tea and coffee priced by the cup, maybe an option of refills could be offered. We would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again in the future

Steer clear of the annex!
Apparently checkbin closes at 8pm so I was already stressed when I arrived with 10 minutes to spare having been stuck in a traffic jam on the M62, losing an hour of time. I was shown to the annex room A1 which was small, but adequate (no desk for business use). Tea and coffee provided and a small TV. Room was freezing cold as the heating would t turn on. 10pm decided to have a shower. No cold water, just scalding water from shower head. Gave up and went to clean my teeth...no cold water, so had to clean my teeth with hot water. This also meant there was no water to flush the toilet either. The ear plugs left by the bed were a tell tale sign of a noisy night, so I popped those in. Bed was comfy enough but I was woken by the bed shaking every time a truck went past and I could still hear traffic despite the ear plugs as the window let's in all the sound. I could also hear every time someone used the outside door as it banged. I have had an apology from the hotel for the water as apparently someone turned off the cold water to the room while plumbing work was done and it wasn't turned back on, but it doesn't help that during a business trip I couldn't shower. I won't be using them again sadly.

Great place to stay
Only stayed for one night but was really happy with the stay. Nice clean room with own access to outside and car park. Hotel is close to a main road which was quiet overnight so not an issue. Evening meal and breakfast were good and reasonably priced.

Our stay was really good - friendly staff, comfortable clean room, good breakfast options if you so wished and the same evening meals in the bar. They had a great handle on the locals too, with a Sunday breakfast club and a take away/delivery food option. Classy decor, well thought out and everything (including the rooms) reasonably priced.The only gripe I had (and specific to me and my asthma) was the plug in air freshener in the room. Removed it at once, but the residual scent bothered my lungs, even with the windows open. I know that sounds petty but if anyone is booking with a similar issue, maybe pop that in as a special request when booking (hence the slightly lower comfort rating)! Would absolutely recommend this hotel - nice atmosphere and all the staff are really relaxed and efficient, which means they are happy in their work - well done all!

Outstanding overnighter for a day at Chester Races
Stayed at Rowton Poplars for the night whilst visiting Chester Races. This is a beautiful little hotel with very high standards. Accommodated an early check in for me. Bedroom was comfortable and clean. Good selection for breakfast. I only had the sausage and egg muffin but it was very high quality and delicious. I can highly recommend this hotel for anyone needing a couple of nights to use as a good base for Chester.
