Shocked by humiliating treatment
Lovely location and a nice room. However, we were severely shocked by the abruptness of the welcome and service. Most unwelcoming and actively and aggressive with no known reasons (other than face it not fit)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I apologise if you felt unwelcome on arrival, that is never our intention. I was just trying to adhere to Scottish Government guidelines for our guests safety. This requires the rooms being empty for a reasonable length of time between guests. Sadly the mobile number on your booking was not valid. Your expensive outdoor jacket you left behind is still here. Please contact me if you would like me to return it. I loved the property. The country setting was peaceful, beautiful and perfect. The gardens were amazing. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and flushed out a bunny and a grouse. Richard tried to teach us how to play snooker. Cecilla gave us valuable tips for our upcoming weekend in Edinburgh and the drive over to Melrose.

This is a gem! As long as you don’t mind being in the countryside. Big airy room. Good bathroom. Outside terrace is great. Breakfast to die for. And then there is the golden retriever!!

Lovely but be careful
Be very careful when booking this hotel. The site states restaurant but when we arrived at 16.00 we asked to eat that night and were told that this was not available as the chef was away for the night, so we asked to eat the following evening and were told that they were unsure if this would be available then it wasn't. The place is in a lovely location but it was 7 miles to the pub they recommended for dinner down single track lanes in the pouring rain. When we complained about this on leaving we were told we could have eaten if we had reserved at breakfast , the day before must have been too far in advance. The rooms were lovely large and well decorated, little extras appeared like tea and cake and the home made bread at breakfast was great. If you are taking a dog be aware that the owners two lovely dogs are free wandering round, our small dog was nervous when they crowded him getting out of the car even though they were not aggressive just curious.

Character hotel in rural setting
A suite rather than a room. Very spacious. Cramped bathroom but with excellent shower. Unusual breakfast arrangement- one large (very large) table. Home made bread and jams were most tasty. Breakfast cooked to order and was very good. Extensive grounds provide great space for children. Partridge chicks added to interest.

Lovely location, and a very warm welcome. Everything you you need for a comfortable, homely stay. As the weather was unbelievably hot, the rooms were lovely and cool. The breakfast was wonderful, as was the service. Great choice of everything. Only thing wrong for me was the mattress. I suffer with my back so I prefer a firmer mattress. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Country hotel close to Crocketford
The hotel was convenient for us coming off the 6 pm ferry from Stranraer heading to the Yorkshire dales. We have stayed here before in a different room a couple of years ago and were pleased. We felt that this time the different room was a bit run down and not very comfortable. breakfast was reasonable although we weren't offered any bread or toast. It seemed the lady owner was a bit under pressure. So all in all the stay was just ok

Fantastic short stay
Absolutely brilliant a wonderful hotel where the host Celia could not have been more helpful. Stayed 4 nights outstanding breakfast and we had 4 evening meals which were just so good. Local sauced food cooked to perfection. Make sure you have the venison and the highland beef casserole On the down side I think they need to fit grip handles to get in and out of the bath as it is difficult for us more senior clients. Also the towels were replaced with damp towels and left to dry in the bathroom which made them smell shame because everything else was brilliant

Dogs don't stay for free!
Be careful when booking a stay at Craigadam with your dog via Hotels.com. The website states that pets stay free but we were actually charged £10.00 per night for our dog! Luckily we only stayed 2 nights otherwise it would have turned out to be very expensive.

Dear Kath, Thank you for writing a review. It says on our website there is a charge for dogs. If you choose to book through an online company I apologise. We do ask them to include all the relevant information but I have no control. The money goes to the Dogs Trust as we also have dogs. Perhaps you will not mind giving your money to charity.

Hotel Craigadam -Fabulous Hotel with Snooker Table
Fantastic enjoyable stay. The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly and went out of their way to please. The food and accommodation were very good and I would highly recommend this hotel and would defintely stay at the Craidadam Hotel again.

Dissappointing
the location was handy for the Dumfrieshire area and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean enough, but some of the furniture was a bit basic or in need of repair / refurbishment. there was also a bit of noise from neighboring rooms and the dinning area, this was not due to them being particularly noisy just poor acoustic insulation. We ate at Craigadam on the first night and although the food was OK, it was just that, OK. Although breakfast was much nicer (except for soggy fried bread) Overall I would only give it a rating of 3 or 3.5, so not sure why it has the 5 rating.

Lovely hotel situated in beautiful countrside.
We had a very pleasant stay with a great welcome from the owners. Craigadam is a beautiful property and our bedroom was large and very comfortable, plus a great bathroom too. The supper and breadfast were excellent.

A Little Piece of Heaven
Craigadam is a wonderful, peaceful, romantic and above all unique accommodation experience in an away-from-it-all location in the Scottish Borders. It is perhaps too small and informal to be described as a hotel, yet too sophisitcated to be called a B-and-B. Instead the experience is closer to that of being a house guest of the wonderful proprietors, Celia & Richard. We stayed in the Indian Room, and the accommodation was spacious and luxurious. Breakfast was homemade, and Celia asks you what you want the night before, and prepares it for you specially. Breakfast is taken round one long table, and is very sociable. Our one regret was we were unable to have an evening meal during our stay, as I am sure that this would have been something special.

We stayed for two nights at the Craigadam for my birthday. We were greeted on arrival by Connor who showed us to our room and explained the arrangements for breakfast. It was all very informal but friendly. We had to order breakfast for the following morning but we could ask for almost anything, whether this was kippers, salmon, eggs, sausage, black pudding, haggis, mushrooms, tomatoes. There was also a good choice of cereals and fruit and home baked soda bread. Breakfast was at a long dining table so all guests mixed in and we had a good chat, meeting some lovely people. In the evening we could stay in the large comfortable room, have a bath in the huge tub, or play snooker and make use of the honesty bar. Evening meals had to be booked in advance but weren't available when we stayed as the lady owner was away. However, the staff made some good recommendations for restaurants in the vicinity which were excellent. You could relax in the outdoor courtyard, weather permitting as well as have a walk in the extensive grounds. Over all this hotel has a very relaxed atmosphere, with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. It's not perfect in terms of furnishings and finish, but that adds to its charm. We would be happy to come back... we left chilled out and really enjoyed our stay.

A lovely tranquil and pleasant place to stop.
A very welcoming atmosphere that is pet friendly and includes a wide selection of food available at breakfast included in the room price. Celia is a magnificent cook and if you require an evening meal you will be treated to an excellent dinner with a good selection of good wine.

Wonderful stay! In a beautiful house, comfortable, clean and homely room. Great outdoors area too. Nice touches like freshly baked bread in the morning, and finding tea and homemade banana bread for us in the room when we came back from our walk. Great breakfast as well, very well catered for by our host.. All in all very accommodating and a great experience. Thank you. Will be back!

Nothing to fault. Everything spot on! A great base for day trips out into the local area. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. They contained all the amenities that you'd expect from a good hotel. The food was excellent and there was a great selection at breakfast to choose from. A 3 course evening meal can be cooked for you if pre-booked using local produce. Wine by the glass or bottle or other alcoholic beverages can be bought there. We had a game of snooker and there were lots of books to read or games to play. Celia told us of a half hour walk up the hill and we saw a selection of animals and wildlife. The views were breath-takingly beautiful and we were lucky to have sunny days.There was a varying mobile phone signal inside, but we managed.

Abgelegens, etwas spezielles B&B, das aber seinen Reiz hat. 20 Minuten Autofahrt bis Castle Douglas mit Restaurants. Grosse Zimmer. Z.T. etwas ins Alter gekommen. Da Ende Saison, Frühstücksangebot doch etwas eingeschränkt. Insgesamt aber doch ok, wenn auch nicht ganz günstig.

Kein Hotel sondern B&B
Es ist leider nur ein B&B. Zum Abendessen muss man fahren, da es ausserhalb liegt. Probleme mit Wi-fi. Ansonsten sehr schönes liebevoll eingerichtetes B&B

We are a hotel but as cook freshly each day using local produce so we ask guests to pre book dinner.. The wifi we would love to be better but until BT put in fibre optics it will sadly not improve.
