Sun Lion Villa, with its original and inspired architecture, is a house built to maximise the appreciation of the landscape that surrounds it. Viewed from the terrace, a sweeping panorama encompasses the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain, Lions Head and the Twelve Apostles. Built on an incline, the deck, swimming pool and garden overlook the coastline and setting sun. In keeping with the style of the rest of the house, the swimming pool has no square edges or corners, and blends into the surrounding shape of the private garden and lawn. A perimeter wall insures both pool and garden are protected from the gazes of neighbours and passers-by, allowing the guest total privacy.
Please be aware there are many steps up to the house (the equivalent of 3 storeys to climb = 62 steps). While some guests may appreciate a mild workout on their holiday, it may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm. An additional benefit of the stairs is that it dissuades unwanted visitors, beggars or tradesmen from disturbing our guests.
While the house is a favourite amongst children, please be warned that the terrace has no protective netting, and the swimming pool has no fencing, which should only be an issue if they are infants or young children that cannot swim or need constant supervision. We have often hosted families with children, and luckily, there have been no incidents in the 25 years we have rented the house to holidaymakers, but as per the terms and conditions, you will have to accept responsibility for accidents or mishaps of any kind.
It is extremely rare to find good-sized, detached properties for rent with so few bedrooms, because the average house in Camps Bay has 4 or 5 bedrooms, making it prohibitively expensive for couples or small groups to find the privacy of somewhere they can have the entire property to themselves.
A few words about our philosophy when renting out Sun Lion, as tastes and requirements differ among guests. We always strive that the description, photographs, and the video to accurately reflect the look, atmosphere and style of the house, and set up the correct expectations with our guests to prevent any unexpected surprises.
So please study all the pictures and video closely, and be aware that the house is a fun and original African experience with unique architecture, colour and design.
We like to keep it animal-friendly, and do not decorate it with expensive designer furniture and fittings. Most of our fittings are bespoke and handmade by local craftsmen who have had to build them to follow the unusual shape of the house and fit its curves and unconventional angles.
We support the local indigenous artisan community by buying objects and paintings from local artists to give our home a very down-to-earth African feel. This allows us to keep prices affordable, while catering to guests who prioritise and value the exceptional location, views and architecture above the bland sterility of square-shaped generic and small International hotel spaces that look the same the world over.
Information for golfers: The following nine golf courses are within a half hour drive from Sun Lion Villa: Bellville, Clovelly, Metropolitan, Milnerton, Mowbray, Rondebosch, Royal Cape, Steenberg and Westlake. A further nine clubs are reachable within the hour: Atlantic Beach, Boschenmeer, Erinvale, Pearl Valley, Somerset West, Spier, Stellenbosch and Strand. There are four more golf courses within the Western Cape Province; Arabella, Hermanus, Langebaan and Worcester, but those can only realistically be enjoyed as part of an entire day trip outing.
Some recommended outings: Cape Point Nature Reserve, Table Mountain cable car (only 4 kms away) and the famous Stellenbosch and Paarl wine routes. If you book with us, we will happily provide you with a detailed guide of 101 things to do in and around cape Town with useful tips and contacts.

Amazing property with views I will dream about forever! Super easy to get everywhere as Ubers arrive in just a few minutes. Perfect to book with friends or family!
Clara was very welcoming, as well as Jo & James. The bottle of wine on arrival, as well as the pillow chocolates was a lovely touch.Sun Lion Villa is in an amazing location with a stunning view The amenities are perfect for a family/single parent with teenagers. Would not recommend for small children, due to the stairs
I loved the location … the view !!!!! The pool , and my favorite part of my stay was the house keeper Clarah and her lovely daughter they greeted us took care of us with such kindness would stay again a million times over . The view was immaculate and I recommend for anyone staying in especially for a couple days you cannot just stay for one night it’s to beautiful!
We had a few minor issues but the management team immediately addressed them. Great service and very responsive. The ad states that there are stairs , but if you have mobility issues, they can be a challenge. The view is amazing!!!! I would go back
We really enjoyed our time in Camps Bay. The quiet home with a pool and a clear view of the beach below and the western sky gave us wonderful sunsets and memorable experiences. Clarah, the housekeeper is a gem; deserves a pay raise. She was very helpful and readily available. The pool was well cared for.
My goodness, what a beautiful spot!!! The house is on a very steep slope and as a result there are seemingly no straight lines in it. We found that charming and so enjoyed the views.
It's a short uber ride down to Camps Bay which is where you can get all the provisions you need,
Anthony was easy to work with and Clarah who was on-site was helpful and supportive, even doing a quick video call to help us understand the surprisingly complex cooktop.
Their flexibility was greatly appreciated.
My aunt, brother, and I had an amazing experience at this beautiful home in Camps Bay. From the moment we arrived, the owner, Anthony, made us feel so welcome. He was kind, attentive, and truly went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The property manager, Clarah, was equally wonderful and always just a message away, checking in to make sure our stay was comfortable. The house itself is stunning, located in a scenic area with expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city. It was the kind of view that takes your breath away every morning. The home was spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, making it the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring Cape Town. The only thing to note is the stairs. There are quite a few (about 63 leading up to the villa and several more inside). It wasn’t a problem for us, but something guests should be aware of if mobility is a concern.Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you, Anthony and Clarah, for making our trip unforgettable!
We had a great time. Pity about all the load shedding, as overseas visitors do not understand at the price range that there is no solar at least for fridge and a few lights.
We were really comfortable but would not stay again. The steps are for younger folk. I do suggest a railing be put up. My husband and I are approaching 70 and while I am fit it is not for anyone with knee issues.
The house has amazing views from its deck and the ability to move the plastic table from outdoors to indoors and part way worked well to deal with the range of hot sun and strong winds we encountered. The house is clearly 50 years old and seems to have had little love recently. To some extent this is reflected in the price but the offering could be improved by spending less than R1000 on removing a broken pot by the front door, providing more than one saucepan, one dish towel and two toilet rolls and replacing a missing plastic wheel in the dishwasher. In short, a great house but let down badly by small details and its overall condition.
This was a great property, the views were amazing and the location was fabulous. The pool area was beautiful and very relaxing. The neighborhood was safe and quiet.
I agree with a former review that one bedroom clearly outshines the other, the "king" bedroom can get a bit stuffy, especially when load shedding cuts power during the night. It also was unfortunate that you have to close all windows and doors at night so no ocean breezes to lull you to sleep. Also, with steep stairs and open railings, the house isn't suited to anyone with mobility issues or young children. Some linens and chairs are showing some wear as well, but for the price in this location, you can't really ask for a better house.

Amazing location
The location is incredible, and it’s hard to beat. However, the house was not as clean as I had expected. There was dirt, spoons, and other debris under the couch. There’s a maid who lives in the house, but this wasn’t mentioned in the post. There’s a door in the kitchen that leads to her part of the house. We only discovered this once while we were there. The pool was nice, but it could have been cleaned before we arrived. As we were checking out, people started coming to clean the pool, which was inconvenient because they should have come on the day of our check-in, not the day of our checkout. Despite these issues, we had a great time. The location is amazing, and the views are breathtaking..

Good price for Camps Bay
There is no denying the villa is good value for Camps Bay and the views from the deck were spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting there watching the ocean and waves whilst the sun set. The villa has all the basic needs for a comfortable stay and the location is quiet and away from the main hustle and bustle of Camps Bay.
The only problem I had with the property were the 67 steps to the front door from street level. For anybody, like myself, who are not at the 'peak' of condition this number of steps might be a problem. Although the owner's initial contact email included a line saying there were steps up to the front door, I was not expecting the scale of the challenge awaiting me!
Apart from that little thing we had a very good time and the main attractions were easily accessible from the property. We even spent a few evenings in as it was pleasant to just relax after sightseeing all day.
Great location and view. Needs a little maintenance
This is a nice space with an up-to-date kitchen and a large common area in a safe location, with an amazing view. The property manager is great and quickly addressed any issues we had. There are 52 steps from the street to the front door, so this property is not for those with mobility problems. There are a few items in need of repair: a number of lightbulbs were out, 2 of the 3 lanterns (for use during load-shedding) did not work, a toilet and a showerhead both leaked). We prefer our privacy and did not mention these to the manager. Also, there is no dryer as mentioned in the list of amenities....our clothes dried pretty quickly outside, but it requires some planning and nice weather. We still recommend the villa...it just needs some maintenance.

Totally unsatisfied
Although the house had an amazing view which was promised, it lacked cleanliness. It was to put it bluntly and thoroughly filthy. Everything about the decor was dated and furnishings was old and out of date. There were cockroaches both in the living room area and in the kitchen draws . The steel frame that overlooked the pool was very rusty and looked unsafe. The decking in areas was very spongy. On top of this there are 76 steps, although we was made aware of this, they would challenge the fittest . I would not recommend this property to any one with small children or elder people. The property could do with a total overhaul as its not seen one for many many years. .cockroaches
