It is exceptional for Madeira because it is close to sea level and most of its houses are accessible by a labyrinth of pretty paths. Its small hotel, restaurant and 2 bars are close to the villa, from where you can also easily reach the promenade and the pebble beach. You can enjoy both the furnished and covered patio by the pool for outdoor dining with a breathtaking view of the ocean and the cliff, and the upstairs balcony for the magnificent sunsets and the noise of waves. All bedrooms and lounges have spectacular views. Downstairs are the large open plan, the spacious kitchen and the living areas with 4 large sliding windows leading to the outside. Upstairs are the bedrooms with two bathrooms plus a second living room with equipped bar and access to the balcony. The equipment is standard luxury - air conditioning in the rooms, fully equipped kitchen, ice maker, satellite TV, large outdoor BBQ, etc. Its position on the edge of the cliff is magnificent. Jardim do Mar: Jardim is a historic and unspoiled village in Madeira. It is small and compact - only a few hundred meters from end to end - and its highest point is approximately 50 meters above sea level. The village road leads to the parking lot and also down one side of the village. The center of the village has a pretty square, a small hotel and a beautiful church. Most of the villagers reach their houses on foot through the cobbled streets from the square. These alleys are interspersed with small plots for growing bananas, grapes and vegetables and many houses have pretty gardens with bougainvilleas and hibiscus. The villa is at the end of the village with breathtaking views of the sea and the huge cliffs, facing west on the side of the sunsets over the ocean. Going down the lane at the bottom of the villa you reach a pebble beach on one side and on the other side the start of the beautiful walk along the sea and around the village and the pier. Activities: the west of Madeira is very unspoiled with spectacular landscapes. The walks on the "levada" are exceptional and generally easy (some can be uneven!). The hikes exist for all levels of walkers. A car is necessary to explore the island. It is possible to organize boat trips and even big game fishing from the marina near Calheta, where there is also an art gallery. Calheta has the best sandy beach in Madeira. Several open-air sea pools, notably in Porto Moniz, are available. There is an impressive cable car ride from the top of the cliff just off the west coast road to Porto Moniz. Further on there are many botanical gardens, museums and a magnificent cathedral in Funchal. There is an 18 hole golf course approximately 45 minutes from the villa and a second 27 hole course further east. Ferry trips from Funchal to the neighboring island of Porto Santo can be arranged in Calheta. Staying in the villa: The owners of the villa stay there frequently and are in regular contact with the two English speakers who look after the clients and the property. The house is maintained (cleaning, swimming pool, garden) before each arrival and the reception of customers is organized on their arrival in the village. On arrival, you will be welcomed in the parking lot and taken to the villa. The villa is in the village, but on a cliff edge, and therefore very quiet. Its panoramic views of the sea are breathtaking. The only sound you can hear is from the sea. The views from inside and on the balconies were glorious. The pool was great and the kitchen equipped with absolutely everything one could wish for. The seating areas inside and out were excellent. We had a wonderful time here and Jardim do Mar is a very pretty little village. Just one thing, access is about a 5 minute walk from the car along steep alleyways, with steps, so this is not the place for anyone with mobility issues. ##### Joy B. We are so happy we booked this house. Plus, having access to laundry was such a bonus. I was extremely impressed with the property itself, so much bigger and better than the pictures portray. The views from the property are out of this world, absolutely stunning. Sleeping with the door open listening to the waves is something else. I cannot rate this property enough, Jardim Do Mar is beautiful, whilst we did explore some of Madeira I would have been content staying put. We will absolutely be looking to return we have fallen in love with Madeira and this house, I fear for any future bookings elsewhere as I don’t think they will live up to this. The listing could do more to make clear that you cannot park at the house. You need to find a parking space in the village and walk c10 minutes to the house. The village is lovely so this would not generally be an issue but one of our party has a bad leg. Expect around an hour's drive to most tourist destinations. A welcome pack (e.g. milk, bread, coffee) would have been appreciated - especially because our flight was on a Sunday and delayed so that we did not land until after the shops shut. A folder with guidance is also recommended. Btw, note that the lava tubes at St Vincente are currently closed and have been for several years - due to re-open in 2024. ##### Michael M. The house is right at the end of the village. There isn't any car access to the house so pack light to carry your necessities in from the central parking lot. Very peaceful! ##### Julie R. Kitchen was great and well equipped, but it would have really been nice to have some things like paper towels and cooking oil already there since the shop in town is limited. Bathrooms need to be updated, especially with most other rentals in town being newly updated, these are dated and wearing out, things like the shower door seals are all split and degrading. Shower heads are awful. The washer and dryer are pretty worn, dirty and rusted, but they did work ok for us. The house could really use a deep cleaning, key areas like kitchen and bathrooms were clean but had mold in other parts of the bathroom, walls are dirty and the blinds throughout have dirty handprints all over them like someone grabbed them with BBQ sauce on their hands. There was also a severe ant problem in the house. Kitchen and bathrooms were full of small black ants, all food of any kind had to be kept in the oven or fridge and it made food prep a challenge. There were few towels, and they were all very thin, though there were two great pool towels. The pool was great, lots of chairs inside and outside with nice cushions. We loved that there are so many doors that can be fully opened to the outside. Images are a bit dated, there are a couple more houses beside it now and a large crane blocking much of the view building a restaurant just below. Die Kommunikation mit Cecile & Nicolas war sehr gut.Gleichwohl waren wir diesmal nicht gänzlich zufrieden mit der Sauberkeit (Terrasse, Fenster, Grillarea) Zudem sind insbes. die Badezimmer aus unserer Sicht wirklich renovierungsbedürftig. In der Küche hatten wir anfänglich sehr sehr viele Ameisen, die wir nur mit viel Aufwand in den Griff bekommen haben. Die Schlafzimmer waren aber sehr schön und vor allem die Betten/Matratzen waren wirklich gut. Super Lage - ruhig und direkt oberhalb des Meeres, großes Haus, super ausgestattete Küche - so viel Geschirr, Besteck und Töpfe hatten wir noch nie in einem Ferienhaus. Wir waren 5 Erwachsene. Eigentümer haben Fragen schnell beantwortet. TV haben wir nicht genutzt. Möglicherweise muss man sich für die Nutzung von Sendern registrieren und bezahlen. Bitte beachten, dass man mit dem Auto nicht bis zum Haus fahren kann, steht aber in der Objektbeschreibung drin. Schwere Koffer und Einkäufe schleppen ist mitunter etwas mühsam. Die wenigen Kritikpunkte der Bewerter aus der Vergangenheit wurden offensichtlich alle ernst genommen und behoben. Vom unkomplizierten Check-In bis zur herrlichen Sonnenterrasse und bei windigem, kühleren Wetter das wunderbare Panorama-Zimmer, die gut ausgestattete Küche und die angenehmen Schlafzimmer mit 2 Bädern - einfach nur ein Traum. Wir haben jede Minute hier genossen. Abends in Joes Bar, tagsüber wandern oder die Terrasse genießen. Besser kann man sich gar nicht entspannen.Die Eröffnung der Kunst-Bar unterhalb des Hauses scheint auch noch auf sich warten zu lassen, worüber wir Ruhesuchenden auch nicht traurig waren. ##### Cornelia P.
