A vehicle is required to visit this area. Hurricane Helene: Our area was affected by Hurricane Helene, but the landscape has largely recovered and we’re basically back to normal. Neighborhood roads and nearly all routes to Burnsville and Spruce Pine have been repaired and are open, and restaurants, attractions, and businesses are operating as usual with only a few exceptions. Our section of the The Blue Ridge Parkway is due to re-open to Mt Mitchell and Asheville in late summer and fully open all the way through by the end of the year. In the meantime, it is accessible from other nearby accesses. The Mount Mitchell Golf Course is closed for golf play; however, the grounds are still open to guests for walking, dog outings, and fishing. Grassy Creek Golf Course is open, and Roan Mountain at Carver’s Gap at the Appalachian trail, along with many other nearby hiking trails, are fully accessible.
