"The airport transport was nearly one hour late... There instruction was to send me the license plate with no further comments. Another guy at the airport explained it to me and looked for my taxi. (the driver didn't get out of the car and helped me at all) At the hotel the gave me a rm which I couldn't log the door, due to the fact I was the only guest, I felt safe. "The hotel room was simply outstanding! Plenty of room, comfortable bed and TONS of lighting options. The restaurant and rooftop bar, however were closed and looked to have been closed for a very long time. There was a restaurant on the ground floor that served a buffet breakfast. If the ground floor restaurant is made permanent or semi-permanent I would recommend drapes to draw dinerā€™s attention inward. The view of the shopping center and dogs was lackluster."

"The room was very small and the bathroom was not what I would class as a proper bathroom. Saying that for the one night it was clean and comfortable enough. We had to be up early but if you want a sleep-in, donā€™t stay here as the mosque speakers are less than 50m away and prayer started loudly at 4.45am and continues for 45 minutes. For a non Muslim it wasnā€™t great. If youā€™re a diver and transiting early to Mabul or somewhere else, then it is ok. If youā€™re looking for somewhere for a few days...

"I would say to everyone look beyond the bad reviews, the staff are very helpfull friendly and will do their best to facilitatee your reequests. The facility has changed since some of the bad reviews in that there is piwer during the day unless generator being topped up. The snorkling around the facilty is good and even better when the turtles pass daily. The food is good and varied over the 4 nights we stayed. This is not a 5 star resort so dont look for that level of comfort, but it is a good...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bum Bum Island?
The best area to stay on Bum Bum Island is along the northern coast, particularly around the main village of Kampung Balimbang.

This area is the most developed part of the island, offering a selection of guesthouses and small resorts. You'll find local eateries and shops here, providing a taste of daily island life. The coastline features sandy stretches and calm waters, ideal for beach activities.

For couples seeking a quiet escape, staying further along the northern coast towards the eastern tip offers more secluded accommodations. These often provide private beach access and facilities like spa services and good quality dining, great for a relaxing holiday away from the main village.

Families will find the area around Kampung Balimbang convenient due to its proximity to local amenities and easier access to boat tours for snorkelling or visiting nearby islands.
When is the best time to go to Bum Bum Island?
The best time to go to Bum Bum Island is during the dry season, which typically runs from March to October.

During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny weather and calmer seas, which are ideal for all water activities like snorkelling, diving, and island hopping. The visibility underwater is usually at its best, allowing for fantastic marine life encounters. This period is superb for couples looking for a romantic getaway with guaranteed sunshine and beautiful conditions for exploring the underwater world.

Families will also find these months ideal. The calm waters make swimming and boat trips more enjoyable for children, and the sunny days mean more time building sandcastles and relaxing on the beach.
