John was an exceptionally good host and we had such a lovely stay in his place. The dog, Quintin, was a big plus! The biggest pluses though was the price and the fact it came with a very generous breakfast served on silver platters as part of the price. With the house itself a Victorian mansion/large estate, this felt like royal treatment. John also went out of his way for us, including letting us check out later and giving us stuff for Easter :) The room also comes with a small but private lounge separate from the rest of the house.
The only room for improvement we could think of was around dust etc. and the smell of cigarette smoke, but overall a very lovely and pleasant stay for us in the heart of the New Forest.
I had a fantastic stay at John’s, the home is full of character, the decor is Victorian style and flows so well. Breakfast is excellent and I found myself taking pictures of the setting, its all a bit lavish and movie like. Its quite special. The junior suite is lovely, with a skylight over the bed from where you can see the stars at night in bed and a living room, with a good variety of teas! Plus the suite has a bathroom plus smaller toilet which is handy.
The best thing is John’s hospitality, from directions to the B&B to the text to make sure we got home ok, it was very attentive. He has a super friendly and happy dog, and importantly, very well behaved. The location is really good, on a quiet road but walkable to some eateries on the main road. And near good forest hikes.
The photo is taken from the back garden so the front looks nothing like expected. The location is lovely but the house itself needs modernisation.
It was relatively clean but smelt a bit musty. Not the worst place I have stayed but it was like staying with your nan in the 1970's.
The host was pleasant but a little eccentric.
The property was very old and tired. The downstairs smelt of smoke and dogs. The room was barely acceptable in cleanliness. There were no complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner just a half used bottle of bubble bath!! The bed didnt have a duvet but a sheet and old eiderdown. The pillows were stained. On a positive note the towels were large and fluffy.
Breakfast was in a lovely dining room. Cooked breakfast was offered with a choice of eggs. The breakfast was below par overcooked and poor quality.
The host was pleasant enough.
We did try to find other accommodation however there was none available in the area. On the second morning we had to eat at a local cafe.
I would think seriously before booking as previous reviews were very misleading.
A perfect break with ponies just outside the door. The host could not have done any more to make us feel welcome throughout our stay. The accommodation was spotless, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Our every need was taken care of. The host even called to ensure that we had arrived home safely!
We need to make special mention of the young dog. He made you feel like the best visitors ever 😃

OMG what a beautiful house .From the moment we arrived we were made welcome by John & Brian. We felt like long lost friends & there was nothing that was too much trouble for them, from telling us about local restaurants to the fab breakfast. They also encouraged us to relax in the gorgeous garden & we were blessed with glorious sunshine all weekend. The bedroom was very comfortable ,bright ,clean & quiet. Overall- Heaven on Earth.we have already re-booked for September
Had a lovely stay at Broadlands Gate. The owners were very welcoming and made us feel at home as soon as we walked in the door. The facilities were excellent and clean and breakfast was lovely. I would highly recommend this gem of a B&B.
Great place to stay. John and Brian are excellent hosts with a unique property in a fantastic location. The small suite gives you the option of comfortable chairs for relaxation. Breakfast cooked to order was superb. Highly recommended.
Beautiful B&B in the heart of the New Forest but a short walk to Brockenhurst. Wonderful hosts, full of knowledge and ready to help. We stayed in the suite at the top of the house: lounge for personal use with TV and WiFi, bedroom with full ensuite bathroom and a separate toilet. The bed is directly under a velux window, and it was lovely to lay and look at the night sky. Breakfast was served beautifully in a fab dining room.
Was attending an event in Brockenhurst and chose this hotel, from the start of my stay I was made to feel very welcomed. It was more of a home than a hotel and even the resident dogs would approach you. The room given was very spacious and had an adjacent living room to use as well. The staff also went out of their way to meet my dietary requirements too.
What a very restful and beautiful house to stay in, our hosts could not have been more caring and attentive. The 2 bedroom suite is much more than you could ever hope for, so comfortable and roomy - this really is a very special place to stay, right in the heart of the New Forest. Highly recommended!
Broadlands Gate is perfectly located in Brockenurst near to cylce tracks and walking routes and only a ten minute walk to the centre of Brockenhurst. The rooms were great with double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and another seperate toilet. We also had a sitting room which was lovely to relax in after cycling or going into town for dinner. The breakfast was amazing with choices of fruit, yogurt and a fantastic cooked breakfast cooked to your liking. The only thing that let Broadlands Gate down for us was the smell of cigarette smoke. It felt like the owners were making an effort to minimise the smell but unfortunately the smell of cigarttes gets everywhere however hard you try. Other than that our stay was very enjoyable.
Very welcoming hosts.superb suite, very warm and comfortable. Lots of little extra touches which made the stay special. Breakfast was lovely. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
A relaxing couple of days in comfortable accommodation with attentive and friendly hosts who do all they can to make you welcome into their home. The breakfast is excellent and the food served is of top quality. Altogether a very pleasant weekend and I would have no hesitation in recommending Broadlands Gate .
Broadlands gate is a beautiful house with a peaceful and well kept secluded garden. John and Brian look after every guest with attentiveness. We stayed in the junior suite lovely bedroom with large ensuite and our own lounge where we could sit and chat, sip wine or make tea with real milk. The lounge had fridge and tv aswell as coffee and tea facilities and was very well, equipped. John and Brian went the extra mile with everything, I asked if they could please get me some gluten free bread not only did they do this they gave me gluten free sausages as well! They left us a torch in the room to light our way back from the village, a choice of umbrellas and friendly suggestions about where to eat.
The breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the garden. WE wouldn't stay anywhere else if we visit again it was so relaxing and peaceful.
We wanted a place to stay in Brockenhurst close to the Cycle Hire facilities at Brockenhurst railway station.
After reading numerous reviews we chose to stay at Broadlands Gate and were not disappointed.
We had our own small lounge, bathroom and bedroom and were within a ten minute walk of the station.
It was great to have our own lounge to relax in after a day's cycling!
We were also able to store our cycles safely at Broadlands Gate which meant we could just head out at our leisure without having to return to collect our cycles from the station.
The breakfast provided was excellent and set us up for the day and there were enough establishments in Brockenhurst to provide an evening meal.
We would definitely stay here again when we return to the New Forest .
Excellent location. Beautiful house where we were made to feel most welcome by our hosts. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with everything we needed. Lots to choose for breakfast which was included, especially enjoyed the fresh fruit salad. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful with anything we needed to know, Would highly recommend to anyone who wants somewhere out of the ordinary, in stylish surroundings..
