The best areas to stay in Birkes are the Altstadt (Old Town) for its historic setting and convenience, or the lakeside resorts for a more tranquil experience.

The Altstadt is the heart of Birkes, characterised by its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and the impressive Birkes Castle dominating the skyline. It's a compact and walkable area, with the central Marktplatz (Market Square) serving as a focal point for cafes, shops, and local events. Many hotels here offer views of the castle or the lake.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find the Altstadt particularly appealing. You're within easy reach of historic attractions like St. Michael's Church and the Birkes Museum, and the evenings offer a selection of traditional Bavarian restaurants and cosy wine bars. A stroll along the town walls at sunset is a popular activity.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate Altstadt, perhaps along the eastern shore of Lake Birkes, offers a great balance. These areas often feature hotels with more spacious rooms, grounds for children to play, and direct access to the lake for swimming or boat trips.
