This is a fantastic concept--it's a wildlife rescue and refuge facility--providing great educational opportunity. We stayed two nights at the associated Tropical Education Centre and loved it. We also enjoyed the night tour of the zoo, a completely different experience from a day-time visit. This is an operation well worth supporting!
The animals are apparently all rescued animals, but they still look sad in their cages.
Take an all day tour to see the zoo on the way to rafting through the Mayan caves. Both excellent adventures.
