Traveling with our friends from Ireland we had an amazing time at the St. George Hotel. Ria, the proprietor was friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Decor takes one back to the late 1800’s and rooms well appointed. Just a note that some rooms have shared bathrooms. It was like being back in the gold rush days with traditional decor of that era. The continental breakfasts were amazing each morning. This is a replica of a small late 1800s hotel. Our room was small and not all rooms have bathrooms attached (ours did). The experience of reliving that time was so much fun and yet you still have wifi. They offer a lovely breakfast and the place was very clean. Our lovely hostess Elizabeth answered all our questions and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Not really for people with mobility issues because of the stairs and the trek in from the parking lot with your luggage. Staff were so friendly and helpful and breakfast was perfect with option for tea and cookies during the day to take a break. The hotel is on the Main Street in the Barkerville site. You truly feel like you are living in a hotel from the late 1800’s. There is a balcony overlooking the Main Street. The continental breakfast was far beyond our expectations and included cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, baked goods and pancakes. The staff are very professional and friendly. We will definitely book at the St George’s again on our next visit. The best way to explore Barkerville. ‘Ms Benedixen’ is super welcoming, serves the best continental breakfast and is incredibly accommodating should you need anything during your stay that she can help with. Coffee/tea and biscuits are available all day and if you want a break from exploring the town you can sit in the private lobby away from other park guests. And you can even watch some of the shows from the hotel balcony. Given the age of the property we were surprised at how comfortable our stay was.
