The best time to visit Bakurtsikhe is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to early June) and autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and the grape harvest.
During spring, the vineyards and surrounding landscapes are lush and green, and the temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for exploring the Alaverdi Monastery and other historical sites without the intense heat of summer. It's also a good time for wine tasting as the new vintage is being prepared.
Autumn is particularly popular due to the Rtveli, the traditional grape harvest festival, which usually takes place in late September and early October. This is a unique opportunity to experience local winemaking traditions first-hand. The weather remains comfortable, between 10°C and 20°C, and the autumn colours in the Kakheti region are quite beautiful.
While summer (July and August) offers warm, sunny weather superb for outdoor activities, temperatures can often exceed 30°C, which some travellers might find too hot for extensive touring.
