Frequently asked questions

How much does a budget hotel in Ayodhya cost?
Budget hotel prices in Ayodhya vary, but you can find a great deal from CA $14 on Expedia. To find the cheapest budget hotels, be flexible with your dates—typically, off-peak and mid-week stays are cheaper. Stretch your budget further by looking for hotels with free breakfast, free parking or free airport shuttles. Sort your search results by "Price: low to high" to see our lowest rates.
When is the most affordable time to visit Ayodhya?
The most affordable time to visit Ayodhya is typically during the shoulder seasons, specifically from late September to October and again from February to early March. During these periods, the intense crowds of the peak winter season haven't fully arrived or have begun to dissipate, leading to lower prices for accommodation and sometimes even transport.

For solo travellers, visiting during these months allows for a more relaxed exploration of the city's significant sites, such as the Ram Mandir and Hanuman Garhi, without the premium prices often seen from November to January. The weather is generally pleasant, avoiding the extreme heat of summer and the heavy monsoon rains, which also makes navigating the city on foot much more comfortable.

Families might find these shoulder months particularly appealing due to the more manageable crowds and better value. Many guest houses and smaller hotels offer competitive rates, and local eateries maintain their standard pricing, ensuring that meals remain inexpensive.
Is Ayodhya a budget-friendly destination?
Yes, Ayodhya is a budget-friendly destination, offering a deeply enriching cultural and spiritual experience without breaking the bank. The city provides excellent value, particularly for accommodation, food, and local transport.

For solo travellers and couples, staying in guesthouses or small hotels near the Ram Janmabhoomi site or along the banks of the Sarayu River can be very affordable. These areas are not only convenient for exploring the main attractions but also offer a peaceful atmosphere. Many hotels and guesthouses also provide simple, complimentary vegetarian meals, further reducing costs.

Much of Ayodhya's appeal lies in its free spiritual and historical sites. Visitors can spend hours exploring the numerous temples, taking a serene boat ride on the Sarayu River, or simply wandering through the historic streets. The city's spiritual essence is freely accessible, allowing for a profound experience without significant expenditure. Dining is also incredibly inexpensive, with local eateries serving delicious vegetarian thalis and snacks at very low prices. Opting for street food or small, family-run restaurants is the best way to enjoy authentic local cuisine affordably.
What free activities should we do in Ayodhya?
You can enjoy numerous free activities in Ayodhya, offering a rich cultural and spiritual experience without spending a penny. Many of the city's key attractions are accessible at no cost, allowing you to immerse yourself in its heritage.

For solo travellers, exploring the ghats along the Sarayu River is a must. Ram ki Paidi, a series of bathing ghats, offers a serene spot for reflection and witnessing the evening aarti (prayer ceremony), which is a captivating spectacle. A leisurely stroll through the narrow lanes of the old city also reveals hidden temples and vibrant local life.

Couples can find tranquility visiting Hanuman Garhi Temple. While there might be a small donation box, entry itself is generally free, and the panoramic views of Ayodhya from its hilltop location are quite special. Another romantic and free activity is simply walking hand-in-hand through the various gardens and smaller temple complexes scattered across the city, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Families can also find plenty to do for free. Children will enjoy the open spaces around the Kanak Bhawan, a beautiful temple complex that, while potentially having paid sections, allows free access to its grounds. Picnics can be enjoyed by the riverbanks, and witnessing the daily rituals and local life unfold provides an educational and engaging experience for all ages.
