They stole our money, and Expedia won't help. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that they are closed due to renovations. The hotel did not give us a refund. I called Expedia twice about this, and they said that since the hotel got paid, they are the ones who should give us a refund. Worse, Expedia continues to list this property on their website. This is fraud from the hotel and from Expedia.
I did not stay. I arrived late. They said they had 24 hour reception. They didn't. They did not let us in. We had to go somewhere else.

The staff were lovely, but the hotel itself was pretty ordinary. The bathroom was connected via a 3/4 wall to the neighbouring bathroom, so you could hear everything from the next room. Very annoying, especially at 2.30am when you are trying to sleep and it sounds like someone is having a party in your bathroom. Also the hot water was lukewarm with very low pressure.
The hotel had a big red poster across the front door from the council to say they were closed for breaching regulation, so the front door was padlocked and in order to come and go we had to call for assistance to have the gate unlocked.
The people that own the hotel and the person that serves breakfast / cleans the rooms are wonderful. What ever we need they were there to help. My husband got sick and we need to extend, they were kind enough to let us stay in the same room. The location is fantastic, really doesn't get any better. For the money you really can't beat El Caminante. Take note that if you get a room on the street side it can be noisy at night, especially it you leave the door open a bit for air. Close the doors and ear plugs help.
They did not have a room available with private bath as we had reserved. They offered us a room with shared bathroom for the first night, and then we moved into the room with private bath that is not so private because one of the walls is open at the top and communicates with the bathroom of the room next door. It was probably built that way to share the clerestory window at the top. However you could hear the person next door doing his things in the bathroom as if he were right there with you, and you could hear entire conversations, doing their bathroom business etc. Not very private if you ask me. The owner kept pleading us to understand why she didn’t see the reservation come up through Expedia and I kept telling her that wasn’t my problem. I didn’t care for the first night of shared bathrooms nor of having to pick up our things and move to another building where our room was finally available the second night of a 2- night stay.
The night-shift front desk cannot speak a word of English. Upon our arrival, no room was available as they have not checked the booking from Expedia and did not aware that we would be coming. They only checked reservation from booking.com. Finally she needed to wake up someone who can speak english. It took more than 2 hours before the problem can be solved. They put us in a room with bunk bed and shared bathroom. Yet they charged us the rate quoted in Expedia which is supposed to be a room with private bathroom.
Worse than that, the English speaking manager says Expedia system must be wrong as they do not have any room with private bathroom. Would Expedia investigate on this matter?
No pude solicitar unos huevos fritos adicionales a mi cuenta.

Simple but amazing location and very welcoming atmosphere

Pictures are deceiving but the location is excellent. Everything is close by.
Love this little gem. The rooftop is an amazing place to watch the sunset in the evening and then enjoy your breakfast the next morning. The management let us leave our luggage for 3 days while we hiked the Colcha Canyon. When we arrived back, our bags were waiting for us in our room. The location is central to all you want to see in Arequipa and there many amazing places to eat and drink within minutes of the door. I will definitely be back ❤️

Close to sightseeings, cheap & good
Room clean and nice, little small.
Breakfast enough & good.
In all: cheap, enough and good.
Recommendation for Arequipa as very close to main sightseeings.

Good Hotel, good location but not quiet.
The location of this hotel is perfect, just few minute away from the Plaza de Armas and near the Santa Catalina monastery. the staff was great and welcoming. The room was spacious with a great view and very clean. But the room is next to a nightclub, we didn't sleep for the night cause of this nightclub. the local area is great but not quiet.
