The best area to stay in Achaya is typically near the town centre, particularly around the Plaza de Armas. This central area offers the most convenience for visitors. The Plaza de Armas is the heart of Achaya, a pleasant open space surrounded by the main church and local government buildings. You'll find most of the town's limited dining options and small shops within a few blocks of the square. It's a compact area, making it easy to explore on foot. For travellers looking for a localised experience, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. It provides direct access to the daily life of Achaya, where you can observe local activities and easily reach the few points of interest, such as the historic church.

The best time to visit Achaya is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, you'll experience clear skies and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and ancient sites. The daytime temperatures are generally mild and pleasant, superb for outdoor activities like hiking and boat trips on Lake Titicaca. While the sun can be quite strong due to the altitude, evenings and nights can be cool, so it's wise to pack layers.Couples or solo travellers looking for an active holiday will find this period particularly appealing. The improved weather conditions mean that trekking routes to archaeological sites like Sillustani are more accessible, and boat excursions to the Uros floating islands and Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca are more comfortable and reliable.
