![Medina - Chefchaouen, Morocco
It is known for the blue washed walls and doorways in the old city. Narrow alleys, cobbled walkways, stairs up and down, leading in all directions. 

Chefchaouen's powder blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky - but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God's power. The tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

The walls are adorned with carpets, purses, blankets, paintings  and much more. It was quite an adventure to get lost in the tiny lanes and alleys and discover the many berber shops and products.

« Chambre propre et confortable, belle vue sur la mer. Petit détail, pas de verre pour les brosses à dent, deux coupures de courant à cause du disjoncteur qui sautait. Ce n'est pas grand chose mais je tenais à le préciser car il s'agit d'un hôtel 4 étoiles. Nous n'avons pas testé le buffet, hors de prix 400 dirhams par pers ! Nous avons diné au restaurant à la carte, excellent. »

« Le séjour s’est très mal passé. L’hôtel n’est pas équipé d’un réseau d’eau potable, les douches ainsi que les lavabos sont raccordé à de l’eau usée, recycler et désinfecter au chlore. Après discussion avec le responsable il m’a avoué l’absence d’un réseau d’eau potable, donc ils utilisent un château d’eau pour rempli avec de l’eau, acheter de l’extérieur, désinfecter au chlore, le Responsable avait un caractère autant et donc quand je lui ai dit que c’était dangereux il m’a dit de toute façon...

It is known for the blue washed walls and doorways in the old city. Narrow alleys, cobbled walkways, stairs up and down, leading in all directions. 

Chefchaouen's powder blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky - but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God's power. The tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

The walls are adorned with carpets, purses, blankets, paintings  and much more. It was quite an adventure to get lost in the tiny lanes and alleys and discover the many berber shops and products.

"Chambre propre et confortable, belle vue sur la mer. Petit détail, pas de verre pour les brosses à dent, deux coupures de courant à cause du disjoncteur qui sautait. Ce n'est pas grand chose mais je tenais à le préciser car il s'agit d'un hôtel 4 étoiles. Nous n'avons pas testé le buffet, hors de prix 400 dirhams par pers ! Nous avons diné au restaurant à la carte, excellent."
