The Shipbuilder's Summer Kitchen

Surrounded by spacious grounds of lawns, trees and flowers, this 1½ story structure was built in the early 1900’s as a summer kitchen addition to the main house (The Shipbuilder's Cottage) that was built in 1812. When built it contained a kitchen, pantry, storage, root cellar and upper level living area.

Today, the lower level, with its original wide plank floors, contains a fully equipped comfy kitchen with bathroom and laundry room. The upper level has two rooms, a bedroom with a double bed and a separate living area with a pull out couch that can sleep an additional two. With its wide plank original flooring, low sloped ceiling and a dormer window with a view of the Bay of Fundy, this cozy space and the surrounding property offer is a great place to relax after a day of exploring the nearby beaches and trails.

Outside there are many places to relax and take in the view of the Bay, including a screened-in gazebo (shared), hammocks slung between trees, and a sprawling lawn for playing games. The yard blooms all summer long with perennial flowers and fruit trees, and on calm nights the world's highest tides can be heard washing into shore, carving the red rock coastline to smooth perfection. The Summer Kitchen has its own patio, BBQ and fire pan just outside the front door.

The cottage is located at 170 West Quaco Rd., 5 km from the Village of St. Martins, the harbour, restaurants, cafe, art and gift shops, tourist information centre, museum and the Sea Caves. The Fundy Trail is 13 km from the cottage. Within walking distance of the cottage is The Quaco Head Lighthouse (1.3kms), and Brown's beach (1.9kms) - which is as quiet as it is scenic and a rock lover's dream. There is also a coastal trail that connects the two.

In consideration of the peace and serenity offered by its location, guests are asked to be considerate of the owner, those in the adjacent rental unit and local residents and observe a quiet time from 11:00 pm-8:00 am.

The owner Nick and his fatherJoe, the property manager, reside in the separate structure (far left) of this 200 + year property while tending the property and working in St. Martins and are happy to help if you have any questions, especially about planning your adventures on the Bay or the nearby Fundy Trail Parkway. Otherwise, your privacy is the priority and you will have the freedom to enjoy your vacation in this cottage that was passed from loving owner to loving owner and found its way to Nick.

Shipbuilder's Paradise
We arrived in St. Martin's to attend the annual Sea Shanty Festival so it was fitting that we were able to stay in a Shipbuilder's kitchen. The accommodations were wonderful. Everything you could possibly need was there. Beautiful big old fashioned kitchen and even had a washer and dryer. The place was immaculate. The Guide Book provided by the owner was very helpful. We were even able to check in a bit early so we didn't miss any of the festivities of the Sea Shanty Festival. The grounds around the cottage were lovely and it was a beautiful place to watch the meteor shower in the evenings. The owner was very accessible, accommodating and helpful. Definitely recommend this cottage!

Nice stay in St Martins
We were stranded in New Brunswick because of Fiona and happened upon Joe and Nick's place. Joe was a gracious host and showed us the place before we booked it. The property is old and unique, but has been updated with a very nice kitchen and bathroom. The bed upstairs is a bit rustic, but we managed just fine. The location is quiet with a very large yard. They put together some maps with the local trails in the area. This was very useful and there are some beautiful views to be had in St. Martins. Overall a pleasant three days.

Charming and cozy stay
My husband and I along with our two kids (age 15 and 12) had the pleasure of staying in the Shipbuilders Summer Kitchen cottage this past weekend. The cottage itself is well maintained is very charming. It had everything we needed and more. Check in/check out was super easy. The property owner, Joe, made sure to check in on us and he was very welcoming. In the evenings we enjoyed the firepit out front. Wood, Kindlin, papers and matches were all on site for us at no charge. It was really nice to learn about the history of the property which was available in our welcome package. Next time we travel to St. Martins we will definitely try to book this cottage again.
