“Would definitely come back for my next visit to Edinburgh!”
After staying at a couple hostels in Edinburgh, it was nice to have an evening alone in a hotel. We definitely did not expect the hotel to be as nice as it was for the price! The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was one of the nicest I had seen in awhile since traveling. The Cairn was also one of the easiest places to find as we changed hotels and hostels every night! Overall, a great place to stay.
“very nice”
Prior experience in choosing a hotel via the internet proved unsatisfactory -- however, I was pleasantly surprised with the Cairn. The room was very nice, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the location was close to the city center - we felt very safe.
“perfect performance ratio”
The staff of the hotel tries to do the best. With its perfect location (but consider that most of the attractions within the Edinburgh are close to each other) you get anywhere and the best: you save a little money!!!! Although the hotel's restaurant is not among the best, and the breakfast is poor, I recommend this hotel for the young people or for people who wants the the most of their money.
“Great accomodation in a central area for a great price”
This hotel is simple, but very comfortable and with very friendly staff. Our room was very clean, with good maintenance. The room was large and very quiet. The breakfast, which can be paid separately, was varied and very well prepared. The restaurant staff is very friendly and every morning gave us tips on the local tourist attractions. The hotel location is very good, near the main city attractions. Everything was within walking distance. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visting Edinburgh.
“Small, inexpensive, convenient hotel with nice staff”
The hotel is on a quiet side street, but it should be convenient for anyone who wants to explore Edinburgh and/or Leith a bit and who doesn't mind short walks. (It's a brisk 15' walk from Waverley station.) The hotel's layout seems quirky, but there's good signage. My room wasn't huge, but everything was in good shape and the bathroom was nearly-new. I'm especially impressed with the hotel's staff and service. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and there was no problem borrowing an adapter for my North American electronics (I found that some larger hotels elsewhere in the UK were less helpful in this respect). I'd most definitely stay here again.
“Nice, clean hotel”
First, I'll talk about the location which is 10 minutes walking distance from Waverley bridge where you can take the bus to the airport as well very near to the train station, though I didn't use any kind of transportation but my legs :) there is a bus station 100m away from the hotel. Though I spent most of my time in the old town (30 min walk to the furthest place from the hotel), but I preferred to stay in the new town where the buildings are modern and it makes you feel like sitting in a big city and avoid feeling u r living in a medieval building (dark and not well lit) which from my opinion is not good for a solo-traveler. Very good value for money. You have a kettle in the room with coffee, tea, creamer, hot chocolate and biscuits. In addition, you have towels, shampoo, soap, ..etc. Of course all the above are normal in a 4 stars hotel, that's why I say it's very good value for money.
“Great little hotel, great price”
The Cairn was way better than we expected! Really nice room, really clean bathroom, great lobby with fireplace and bar! The reception was lovely, and our only "complaint" was that we thought breakfast was included, but it turned out that breakfast was extra. Oops. Good location. Would definitely stay there again.
“Hotel made my visit great.”
I would highly recommend this hotel. It is not luxurious; the room was not large but I had one of my best hotel stays ever. The staff was pleasant and helpful and when I asked if there was a reason my room was not warmer, housekeeping instantly brought me a portable heater. The in-room coffee was a pot that could only be used to heat water and there were packs of Nescafe. It was actually good and there were plenty of packs along with shortbread. It was located within walking distance of most of the places I wanted to go.
“Great Find”
For the price this hotel is fantastic. Very clean room with modern bathroom, bedroom a little dated but perfectly clean and adequate. If you are looking for a budget hotel close to the city centre then you can't go wrong. The hotel has a small bar and only offers continental breakfast but there are also plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. I will be using this hotel again. There are no frills but for the price it is a real gem.
“Very Good”
No problems - everything was excellent!
