“Fantastic real quality hotel”
The Balmoral is superb. Rooms are wonderfully large and extremely comfortable. It was freezing in Edinburgh when we were there, and the thermostat in the room was hopeless - consequently we rarely got our room warm enough - it was just about OK. We pointed this out to reception when we left. Breakfast in the hotel is very good - although if you want kippers you have to pay an extra £5, which I think is a cheek. We had dinner in Hadrians Brasserie which was very good food - although greeting and service from the E European manageress was cold and impersonal. The bar is good - you can only get Bollinger if you want fizzy stuff. They do have a couple of good ales. Afternoon tea is a treat - although for the price, sandwiches could be a bit more refined.
“special break”
Have been a frequent visiter to this city normally staying in good 4 star hotels but allways commented that one day we would splash out and stay at the "balmoral". When we realised England were playing Scotland on the same weekend as our 28th anniversary we "splashed" out. Arriving early by train and a 2 minute walk, phew, we were greeted by a consierge who took our bags and introduced us to check in. They explained that our room was not quite ready, which we were expecting, as we were early, but took down our details and mobile number and promised to phone when the room was ready. After only 15 mins we recieved a phone call, and arriving back to check in. The guy was fantastic , taking us arround showing us the facilities and then taking us to our room. Guests have to remember that this hotel is in an old building and although i feel that we have stayed in more luxurious rooms we found the room pleasant and very spacious. This was a very busy weekend and we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and it was a first having a bath menu where you select your preferred bath ie rose petal bath where you have to give the staff 20 min to prepare your bath. The jewel in the crown for this hotel is the staff, everyone of them just want to make your stay a special one and just for this we will return.
“Excellent location, nice hotel”
Balmoral Hotel has the best location in town, next to the train station and buses and walking distance to Old and New towns. The historic landmark building is well maintained, and service is excellent. We had the standard room, small but comfortable with excellent bathroom. Service was top notch, concierge very helpful and provided great recommendations on activities and places to eat. Great stay at this upscale hotel.
“Great hotel in Edinburgh”
This hotel is in an excellent location to walk the Royal Mile, etc, or catch the open top tourist bus. The spa is exceptional and my nails are still looking good! Staff are friendly and food and drink wonderful.
“LOVED this hotel!!!”
We went for our wedding anniversary and must say that this is THE best hotel to stay at for an up-market romantic get away! The hotel is centrally located, absolutely beautiful and the entire staff were fantatstic! We'll be back!!!! Highly recommended!
“Fantastic start to our trip”
Very friendly, warm, welcoming staff. All made our stay perfectly wonderful. Quiet room with great amenities, even ordered room service and enjoyed it immensely. Comfortable beds, great location, a perfect start to our three week overseas trip and dealing with jet lag. Would return in a heartbeat.
“It was fine”
good location, old style hotel.
“Best Hotel in Edinburgh”
Our experience at the Balmoral exceeded all of our expectations. The rooms were spacious and brightly lit. The service was excellent; everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Our spa service was fantastic. I travel to Edinburgh quite frequently, and I will never stay anywhere else but the Balmoral in the future.
“We have stayed in many of the world's great hotels. The Balmoral surpassed them all.”
Wonderful weekend.
“A Classic in the Best Sense”
If you want a hotel in Edinburgh that has everything--comfortable rooms, a convenient location, friendly and helpful staff, superb (and tireless) concierges, and wonderful restaurants--then The Balmoral is for you! Granted, you will pay 5 Star prices--but you get 5 Star service. One small example: at breakfast, a boy about 12 explained to the waiter that his younger sister had a food allergy, so her breakfast cereal had to come directly from a box; the waiter understood, put the kids at ease and took personal care of the youngsters (the breakfast is buffet style). I happened to notice because I was at the next table--but the kindness was done without any fuss--and with no awkwardness for the little girl. It would be nice to get such attentive service here in the US!
