Golden sandy beaches, excellent restaurants, walking paths and some of Rio de Janeiro’s most popular neighborhoods surround this bustling seaside avenue.

No Rio de Janeiro holiday is complete without a visit to Avenida Atlântica. This avenue is famous for its events year-round, including a massive New Year’s Eve celebration covering the entire avenue and Copacabana Beach. Stroll along the avenue’s promenade to experience Rio’s lively beach culture and oceanfront events.

Play a game of volleyball on Copacabana Beach or cycle on Avenida Atlântica’s bicycle path. The avenue stretches about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) and spans the neighborhoods of Copacabana and Leme. Walking the avenue is a great way to see many impressive buildings, such as Belmond Copacabana Palace, a notable art deco-style luxury hotel.

Spend a day at Copacabana Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world. The golden beach features striking views of the surrounding Rio landscape, including Sugarloaf Mountain. Copacabana Beach is an excellent place to sunbathe when visiting Avenida Atlântica. The beach also contains areas with exercise equipment and volleyball nets.

Avenida Atlântica is celebrated for its paved promenade with a pretty black-and-white wave design. The promenade is popular for jogging, cycling and roller skating. Build up an appetite and then visit a beach bar for draft beer and Brazilian street food. The promenade was completed in the late 20th century and is near some of Rio’s best luxury hotels and fine-dining restaurants.

The avenue hosts weekend fairs year-round, where you can purchase locally made artwork and souvenirs. Find the right place to relax with champagne bars, award-winning restaurants and cafés. Enjoy freshly caught seafood in a beachfront restaurant and visit many late-night bars, stylish lounges and nightclubs for some of Rio’s renowned nightlife.

Many celebrations for Rio’s world-famous carnival are also held near the avenue. Stay in luxury hotels and apartments in Copacabana or Leme when visiting Avenida Atlântica. The avenue is about 16 miles (25 kilometers) from Rio de Janeiro - Galeão International Airport.
